Mean/weird things

that you have said to your kids?

Today C wouldn't take his nap in his room so I let him lay down in our bedroom. I forgot to move a glass of water off of my side table. He always pours anything out of a cup on to whatever it is sitting on. So, it's my fault that he got to it. BUT, since I had already been fighting with him over taking a nap for 30 minutes I got upset with him about it. I was cleaning the mess up with a towel and it was making a squeaky sound on the glass table top so I told him, "The table is screaming because it doesn't like to get wet!"

I was worried that I gave him some sort of false fear. I was later relieved of that fear when he poured his own cup all over the same table a short while later. Now I'm worried that he gets a kick out of making the table scream. lol

  • Oh man, one thing sticks out.

We turned on the tv and it was the scene from Willy Wonka where the girl turned blue and swelled up.

DS1 asked why that happened and I said "it's because she didn't listen to the rules." He asked if that would happen to him and I said maybe.

He worried about that for weeks. Anytime I told him he didn't listen, he would say, "oh no! I don't want to turn blue." Bad mommy.

  • I get frustrated with messes and I guess I sigh a lot because now when DD makes a spill or something she let's out a big sigh. So I'm a jerk because she's starting to learn that it's a bad thing to make a mess even if it's an accident. I'm trying to say "it's okay, no biggie", instead of a frustrated sigh.
  • LOL. This reminds me of when I was little and throwing a temper tantrum, my mom always used to tell me not to pout because my face would get stuck that way. So I'd alternate smiling with pouting to avoid having my face get stuck. Haha. The things parents tell their kids! I'm sure ill come out with a few funny ones myself in the years to come.

It wasn't intentional, but I gave my kiddo a fear of curtains. Her video monitor is mounted on the window. Basically it sits on a book on top of the curtain rod. This is the only place that gets good reception and shows the whole room.

When she was a little shy of 2, she was in the "what's that?" phase, building her vocabulary. She pointed at the curtain and asked what it was, and I told her it was the curtain. I didn't know she was talking about the video camera; she was aiming low.

She said, "Sometimes curtain talks. It says, 'Beep beep' and sometimes says, 'Go to bed, Charlotte!'" After that she started asking if it would "get" her, etc. She still doesn't like curtains in hotel rooms, etc. Sometimes we tell her, "Oh, that's not a curtain. It's drapes!"

    Hahahaha

  • I've said plenty of weird and slightly inappropriate things to my children over the years. They're going to be scarred for life;)

One of my favorites happened when the 2 older kids were bouncing off of the walls together. I said, "I am telling you to settle down for the last time. If you continue and someone gets seriously hurt, I will not take you to the hospital. I will fix you with a stapler and a glue gun." They started laughing so hard they stopped acting crazy.

  • The only think I can think of right now is, "Elmo went night night". I'm sure in the years to come, there will be much more.

  • When my husband leaves for work in the mornings I tell my DD that he's leaving because she cries. I keep promising myself I'll stop before she actually starts to understand what I saying.
