It was our girl name when I was pregnant with DS but obviously it didn't go to use and it is still the top contender but it seems everywhere I turn there is someone naming their little girl Evelyn with the NN Evie.
I am aware its never been a unpopular name by any means but within the past year it seems Evelyns are everywhere, which wasn't the case when I was pregnant with DS. It's definitely been steadily increasing in popularity and in my state its almost in the top 10.
You may be overthinking it a bit. It might seem to be more popular now because you are considering it. Although I think it fits in with the "older names" trend.
It's still a beautiful name. I don't think it will make the top five.

Me over think things? NEVER! Ha.
In general I hate trends though so I can't say I am psyched about older names becoming a trend either since I always lean towards older names. Although I know name trends change so fast.
Honestly, if it wasn't for FB I wouldn't have seen 5 Evelyns born with that name within the last 6 months. Damn facebook.
That s a top name choice or DH and I as well. I do have some concern with the popularity, but don't plan to use Evie as a NN so I'm hoping that will help. If we use the name, she will be Eve or Evelyn, not Evie.
According to the Social Security Administration, Evelyn has been climbing the ranks in popularity, reaching number 24 in 2011, the most recent year for which results are available. Before that, it was in the 30s. So, yes, I think it is becoming more popular. However, SSA also lets you search the most popular names in your state, so that might help you more than just the overall average.
I had a friend named Evelyn in school, she was constantly made fun of for her name. Kids would say it sounded like an old lady and she was given the NN "Everland" in school, not by choice.
Re: Evelyn popularity
Regardless of popularity, it's a great name.
I am interested in seeing where it will land on the 2012 SSA list-- I think it will be taking a big jump.
