Trouble TTC

Lap Impact on IUI/IVF Sucess?

Hey guys,

So IUI#2 was a bust.  DH and I are debating between IUI#3 or moving onto IVF.  I never had a Lap done; my RE said I presented with no signs and have no family history of endometriosis.  He said that doesn't mean I don't have it but he highly doubts it.  At this point, would it be worth doing before we do any other treatments?  If I did have some endometriosis, would it have a impact on the sucess of IUI or IVF?  I feel like when we had out inital consult, he said it wouldn't but that was a while ago and I may be remembering wrong.

I called the nurse this afternoon and she said we would need to talk to the RE but she said she didn't think it was necessary.

Again, any advice would be appreciated :)

Me-31/DH-32, TTC since Aug 2011, HSG/Blood work all normal 3 SAs - results all over the place. DX Unexplained

Re: Lap Impact on IUI/IVF Sucess?

  • I wouldn't think you would need a lap done if you present with no symptoms of endo.  I know you can have it with no symptoms.  Was your hsg good?   I don't have any advice on the impact of a lap with IUI/IVF though.  Good luck.

A lap is needed if endometriosis is suspected. I had requested it recently but Dr told me I have no symptoms, my HSG didn't show anything abnormal so I cannot get it done. I just started thinking maybe I have it and not know it. What is the reason you want it done?

HSG was normal. I guess I'm thinking if endometriosis affects IUI and/or IVF why continue to spend money on them when I haven't done a lap to diagnose/ treat it? But I was under the impression that a Lap if endometriosis was found/removed wouldn't be worth it. Part of me thinks, why not try it's 100 covered, IUI/IVF 100 OOP if it may help? But if doesn't matter, then I wouldnt. I may be thinking of it all wrong.

  • Since you have no symptoms or family history of endo and your HSG was all clear, IDK how much a lap would help you. If I was in your shoes, I don't think I would do it but good luck with whatever you decide.
