Poop troubles

My DD has been having trouble with her bowel movements ever since we started solids. I have tried adding prune juice to some of her foods and it seemed to have been working but now she's gone a full week without pooing. I know her stomach is upset and it wakes her up at night. She has been extremely gassy too. Could it be the food causing it? Anyone dealing with similar issues? Any suggestions? I did try switching brands of cereal. She is now on a brown rice organic no milk added brand. But still same problems.

Re: Poop troubles

  • Yes, in my experience rice cereal can be very constipating. Oatmeal didn't seem to cause as many problems for us. We also started prunes as soon as we switched from cereal to fruits and veggies. Now if I feed him something that tends to constipate (like sweet potatoes or bananas),I try to make sure that he eats something that same day that naturally helps him go: prunes, pears, mango, etc. I also give him probiotics daily, and I think that helps.

  • Is ur baby formula or Bf? Bf babies can go up to a week without having a BM and this is normal. Rice is harder. I would take to your pedi about ur concerns. Also, of you need, mix two ounces of water to 1 tsp of brown sugar and it helps as per my pedi to have a BM

  • We had the same issues with solids - switching from rice to Barley and Oatmeal has really helped.  LO went a week without going and I wound up using half a glycerin suppository ( with pedi's suggestion) - she had a small movement within about 15 min and an hour later the damn broke...lol   It was very effective.   I havent had to use another one since.   I have backed off the more constipating foods and have given her a small amount of prunes here are there to keep things moving.
