1st Trimester

When to worry about morning sickness??

I'm a first timer and 9 weeks along. Since finding out I've just had that icky feeling all day every day, but have been able to keep food down. Then all of a sudden this week I can't even brush my teeth with out getting sick. I'm already down 10 pounds since finding out 5 weeks ago. I'm just wondering when I need to be concerned and call the hospital. (I haven't been to my doctor yet as my hospital won't see you until at least 9 weeks)

Re: When to worry about morning sickness??

  • if you can't keep anything down and/or are getting sick several times a day--  i would call the Dr. ASAP.

  • I would call your doctor to see what they think. My doctor wanted me on Zofran if I was throwing up more than 3 times per day and if I lost 2 pounds in a week. Also, if I hadn't kept down any food or water for a few hours I was to go to the emergency room for hydration. Luckily Zofran has been working for me, I would definately call your doctor I'd bet they'll either see you, give you a prescription, or at least some ideas as to how to handle how you are feeling. Good luck!

  • I was like that with my DD and I lost alot of weight so ws put on the zofran. It works great. I could not even go to the store and go shopping because the smell of the food would make me get sick. Around 19 weeks I started to put weight back on. Good luck:)
  • You can watch you urine too. If you aren't going as often and it is dark in color then you are probably dehydrated. But I would go ahead and call. No need to be miserable.

  • Thanks for all the advice. Called OB nurse and was told to go to the ER. Spent about 5-6 hours there and they gave me fluids and IV meds and also prescribed a boatload of things for me to take at home. Feeling 110% better. I had some tacos for dinner and am feeling just fine. Thank goodness. Here's to hoping the meds work and I don't have to go back to the ER anytime soon
