Beta #3...not what I had hoped — The Bump
Pregnant after IF

Beta #3...not what I had hoped

Beta #1 @ 11dp5dt-93

Beta #2 @ 14dp5dt - 249 Doubling 50.67 hrs

Beta #3 @ 17dp5dt - 580 Doubling 59.82 hrs

I am starting to get really scared about this. I was already nervous and have been praying for a mindblowing beta to put my mind at ease, but unfortunately this isn't it at all. I honestly feel like I want to cry.... :( I will absolutely be a wreck if this doesn't work out. We can't replace these embryos. They will be gone forever. I have a fourth on Monday. If anyone has any encouraging words, I could really use them right now. Thank you so much!

Re: Beta #3...not what I had hoped

  • Hi Liz

I am sorry that this has you so concerned. I think those numbers and doubling times are pretty good though. Not sure there is anything that will really help you feel better though until your next level. For what it's worth I didn't believe I was really really pregnant until my nuchal scan at 12 weeks. Realizing the transposition in beta numbers earlier today probably hasn't helped. ((Hugs)) and hopes for a speedy weekend.

  • What has your RE said?

I think those #'s are totally fine-like other girls have said-the window that they look for is a doubling time of 48-72 hours-and yours are definitely in that window.

The range for "normal" beta's is so wide-both in terms of the actual # on dpo and in the doubling time.  Try not to worry-if Monday's is in that window then your RE will most likely schedule an u/s and that will tell you so much more than your beta's can.

I understand where you are coming from-that if this doesn't work out you don't have a plan b, or can't just "try again".  But that doesn't mean this won't work out!  So far, everything is fine-just try and breathe.

  • Hang in there friend! FWIW, I think you numbers are still looking good. I know there probably isn't much I can say, but your numbers are still going up, and still within the normal doubling rang. Those are both good things. I hope you 4th beta puts your mind at ease.
  • You guys are right. I'm in uncharted territory and it scares the living daylights out of me. I can't believe how much stress this is causing me and I am just begging and pleading for a superstar number that puts my mind to ease, but it's not happening. I guess I thought it would need to double every 48 hours for it to be okay, you're right though, it's in normal range.

My RE didn't say anything either way, just left a voicemail with the results and said I have another for Monday.

Thanks for talking me off the ledge. I'm expecting bad news at every corner and I think I'm creating it in my head! I need help...serious mental help. Zip it!

  • I think it is/was hard for each & everyone of us to not stress about our numbers. I know I did & mine always doubled in the appropriate time as well. I just wished at the time, they doubled a little faster, or the numbers were a little higher each time. I think its totally normal! You are WELL within your normal doubling time, so try not to stress too much about your numbers. This is all positive news. It has doubled each time in the appropriate range. So far, so good!!

I don't get it. Your doubling times should be 48-72 hours. Those are EXCELLENT numbers that are rising better than they need to!

I'm being a crazy woman. I need some serious therapy! You guys are all right...thank you for reassuring me. I'm insane..... I'm so afraid of bad news I have created it in my head.

I've been there. Imagine me sitting in the waiting room before my u/s sobbing because I was sure the baby had stopped growing. Try to take a deep breath and congratulations on your pregnancy!
