Ugh, I have a wicked stomach bug and the thought of any protein whatsoever makes me gag. All I want is a big bowl of tomato soup, but am worried without any protein it'll shoot my numbers up. What do you eat when sick? To top it off, it's my birthday and my husband made me a delicious looking coconut cake. It was supposed to be one of my planned cheats ( I have allowed myself 2 this pregnancy) and I was going to enjoy it after a nice seafood dinner which is totally unappetizing right now.

I was sick yesterday and I ate minestrone soup (homemade, no noodles, just vegetables) for lunch and dinner and it didn't spike my numbers at all. It was mostly tomato sauce, chicken broth, herbs, etc...so similar to tomato soup.
When I had noro virus a few weeks ago, my doctors said I should eat whatever I felt I could keep down, check my blood sugar periodically and call if it got high or low. I mostly ate crackers and drank juice or ginger ale. Since I was sick enough that I was pacing myself with that, my numbers never spiked in either direction. It was about a week before I was able to keep protein down, and it wasn't a problem.

You can always test it and see what happens.
Hope you feel better soon!
