I need a gown for tomorrow night; all opinions and suggestions are welcome!
The scoop:
The event is for adult special needs guests. My husband and I will be escorting two people throughout the night of whatever they want to do (e.g., photo booth, games, dancing, eating, etc); I need a long dress to cover comfortable shoes.
It is formal dress...think prom..some of the guests have not left their homes in 4+ years, and have been looking forward to "Shine" (the name of the event) for a while.
I really do not want to spend a ton of money on a new dress! So I was thinking about going to a Good Will or consignment store...thoughts?
Is it appropriate to wear a halter type dress or even strapless?
I have a dress I wore for my baby shower that is black and white, long, and is the strap on one shoulder look! The problem. I wore it for my baby shower, and It may not be formal enough.
I need prom dress help... at almost 30! ahhh!
Re: about Prom...
If you are looking for other options, there are always bridesmaid and prom dresses at Goodwill and other thrift stores.
I would definitely check out consignment stores! There are some gorgeous gowns in ours that I wouldn't think twice about getting if needed.
Do you have a pic of your baby shower dress? A wrap could dress it up some, maybe?
Do you have any bridesmaid dresses you've been holding on to? That would be my go-to if it were me!
i don't see anything wrong with a goodwill or consignment find either though, sometimes they have really nice stuff! I would think either strapless or halter would be fine as long as cleavage is pretty covered up. This sounds like a great event!

Agreed! I knew ours is just over flowing with dresses. Some of them are really nice and still in style.
I do have a picture [:$, but I am pushing 28 days before Bo was born sooo it looks more like a tent!
Do you think it would be in poor taste to wear strapless?
As long as the girls are held in properly (and tastefully), and the dress fits well enough that you won't be tugging it all night, I see no problem with strapless.
Thanks so much! I am getting ready to peruse the Good Wills of my state!! Poor Bo!
I will post a pic later if I find something pretty!
I was thinking the exact same thing, a black maxi dress with the right accessories!
Becca, I think it's SO awesome that you and DH are doing this! Good for you guys!
Do you have a Ross near you? I was there the other day and saw long prom dresses. I think a black maxi would be nice too. I am a huge believer in accessorizing!
Please share pics too!
