I had my leep performed on Monday and my doc called me last night with the results. Nice of him to call me at home after hours but way to freak a person out. Anyway, it's not all good news and it's not all bad news but really, I wish there wasn't any bad news at all, but there is.
The biopsy of the worse of the two lesions actually came back totally clean (good news). He thinks the first biopsy actually took all the bad cells as there was nothing wrong with any of the tissue he took on Monday.
The biopsy of the "better" of the two lesions came back NOT showing clean margins (bad news). We're left not knowing if there are any bad cells still there. When they take the tissue they cauterize the edges and my doc said he moves out even further than necessary to try and make sure to get any and all bad cells but you can't know if you got them all if there aren't clean margins.
So, I'll have another pap in three months. There's nothing that can be done now since my cervix has to heal before they can tell anything more. Hopefully that pap will be good and I can move on and start thinking about hurrying up and doing a frozen embryo transfer. If my pap is bad though then I'm in trouble. My doc said he'd do another Leep to try and preserve my fertility but that his honest opinion would be that I should get a hysterectomy. Ugh.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
Re: NWMR - Leep done and biopsy results back
Quick results! I hope the follow up paps come back negative meaning normal.
So sorry you got mixed results. I had a LEEP in October and just had my last pap come back with weird results. Did they say what kind of cells showed up? The reason I say this is my doctor said it usually takes a long time for precancerous cells to become cancerous. She said that they can usually wait through a pregnancy to take action because it progresses so slowly. If the cells were cancerous, though, it would be another story.
Obviously you need to make the best decision for your health, but I might get a second opinion before getting a hysterectomy. In my case, my LEEP came back clear and my OB said I could start TTC 2 months later. We got pregnant our first cycle, which was astounding given prior fertility issues, and unfortunately my first pap came back weird, but may just be due to the cervix still healing. We're going to do a colpo and biopsy in a few weeks, but unless it comes back with invasive cancer, we will probably just ride it out through the pregnancy and take a more aggressive resection after the baby is here.
Good luck to you....I know how scary this is!
The pap I had done came back showing carcinoma in situ, so as bad as it gets before it's invasive cancer. The colposcopy and biopsy results came back with one CIN II and one CIN III lesion. The leep confirmed that there isn't actually any carcinoma in situ but possibly some of the CIN II lesion was left.
My doctor is concerned by how fast these changes happened. I know they say that cervical cancer takes years to progress but I've had good paps for over six years now, and had a good one as recently as 10 months ago (at the beginning of my last pregnancy). So, things went from normal to CIN III is a relatively short amount of time.
Congrats on your pregnancy. I hope things clear up on their own for you.

This Cluttered Life
I can see why your doc is so concerned- that does seem really fast to progress :-( Sending you lots of positive thoughts for nice clean margins on the next LEEP!
Sorry to hear that. Good news is they are on top of it.
Best of luck!
