FMLA?

     I have posted on this board before but I predominately post on TTC>35 but I am hoping you ladies can help me out with a question I have.  Our next step in the infertility journey is IVF and my manager is not very forgiving for being out of work for any reason.  I have not approached her regarding fertility treatments but I know that she wouldn't willingly give me time off when it comes time for IVF cycle.  My question is does fertility treatments qualify you for FMLA.  I know I meet the requirements as far as being there long enough, hours worked, and company large enough to qualify.  I just didn't know if any of you have had success getting FMLA  and IF being considered a serious medical condition?  I appreciate any feedback, thanks in advance!

I attempted to get my IVF covered by FMLA, but unfortunately it wasn't accepted. Our agency director contemplated just putting it through, but apparently were told they couldn't. Our assistant director and her wife went through IUI to have their children and disclosed that to me when she apologized for it not being covered. Luckily my job is relatively flexible and I am able to shift things around and make it to appts fairly easily. Good luck!

i believe if your dr writes you out for the leave, then it would count.  Sounds like it may be more intermittent FMLA if possible though which you may be able to take for a week at a time.  I would request the fMLA paperwork have your dr. fill it out and then submit to HR.  good luck!

I'm a lurker here other than the DOR check in but when I asked my RE's nurse if they had suggestions about dealing with appointments and work and she recommended applying for intermittent FMLA. I think my papers say something like needing to be able to leave to go to monitoring appointments and then 1-2 days of bedrest for procedures. Our FMLA is handled by an outside company but they accepted it no problem. Good luck!

Couldn't you go on a "stress" leave under FMLA??

My RE filled out the paperwork for an intermittent FMLA. I applied, and it was approved. I ended up only using a few days, but it was nice to have.

My work has been good about letting me use my pto so far but i know others that have gotten fmla from my unit. Its nice cause you dont have to worry bout covering shifts but i havent done it cause i don't want to dip into potential maternity leave time.

I have taken several leaves from work under FMLA for IVF cycles. I had to be out for 3 to 4 weeks at a time due to lifting restrictions, I'm an RN in an ICU. I had lifting restrictions during stimming and after ET. My next attempt I will probably be out for at least 2 weeks after ET. It's never been an issue for me, good luck!!!
