Right now we use Playex Drop-ins, but DC is super fussy and gassy after each bottle (gets 2 bottles per day of breastmilk) so I went out and bought one Dr. Brown's to try it tonight. Totally confused though! Please answer my questions:
1- How do you warm the bottle?
2- More specifically, how do you warm the bottle with the nipple and collar off, as it says in the instructions?
3- How does the air get into that insert thingy if the nipple & collar are screwed on tight?
Re: Dr. Brown's users- please come in and help me!
1. Put it in a cup of HOT water
2. Same as above
3. No one knows. I think it's a manufacturing secret. I know a gal who's baby did GREAT on DB's bottles.

I love Dr Brown! I think i've figured out the bottle. but I'm not sure how to put it into words. I'll try- as they suck the formula/BM flows through the little holes in the top of the tan piece. the air pressure is cut by the long "straw" valve and is released through the tan piece on the side holes. the side holes sit on top of the bottle and the collar sit on top of that so the holes on the side are still exposed. I think about it all the time while I'm feeding her. it totallly makes sense in my head. not sure if I conveyed it here! lol.
I have the 'first years' bottle warmer and it works great. I find it takes forever to warm anything that's been in the fridge in just hot water.
I warm them with the cap, shake it with the cap- don't shake with the valve and all that in.. your just asking for leaks!
1 and 2) We warm the bottle in a measuring cup of warm water with the nipple and collar on....I never read the directions so I wasn't even aware that it said not to do that until I read this post. We also have a bottle warmer....which my sister used to warm all my nieces Dr. B's bottles....I'll have to get that out.
3) I don't know how it works and I really don't care but my DS has never had any problems with gassiness and neither did my niece. I
Dr. Brown's bottles. Hope they work for you.
i rarely warm them, as DS takes room temp bottles, but if i do--i put it in a dish of hot water, usually all put together.
i don't know about the air getting into things.
