Strep help

Sorry this is a little long.  Several months ago my daughter developed a diaper rash that would not go away. I called the doc she told me what to do.  A couple weeks later I took her in for a cold doc checked it said the do same thing (different pedi) a couple weeks later I demanded my pedi see her.  The pedi took one look and said Strep I don?t even need to test it.  Gave her a round of antibiotics and said I will see her in three weeks for her well check.  Rash got better but never completely cleared.  I called doc back doc prescribed antibiotic cream.  This did not really help that much.  Yesterday was her well visit.  DD was fine and  I had doc check her rash.  She took one look at her throat and rash and said I am checking her throat for strep it came back positive.  She is not running a fever seems fine I am shocked.  So now onto another round of antibiotics.

Anyone ever deal with Strep and not have it go away?  I am also concerned about my 8 month old, although doc said chances of him getting it are slim to none.  I woke up with a sore throat yesterday and had my doc do a rapid test but it came back negative he diagnosed me with tonsillitis.  TIA any suggestions you can give me or personal stories will be great.  Strep makes me nervous because it can get bad if not treated and while we are treating it does not seem to want to go away.

  • I used to get strep all the time with no fever when I was a kid. I had no idea it could cause a diaper rash. If they actually tested and it came back positive I would try another round of antibiotics in a diff'nt family. I know antibiotics can cause a yeast infection. Maybe ask if an antifungal cream like Nyastin will help. DD2 used this ointment when she had a persistent rash; not even a yeast infection. It helped immediately.

  • Thanks everyone.  She put her on the same antibiotic I questioned it but she said it was great at fighting strep.  I will change out her tooth brush at the end of the week great advice. I am using the anti-fungal cream to prevent fungus.
