Did you know...for those with boys...

I've been meaning to post this... Did you know that the skin of a circumcised little boy can reattach? It's more common with "chunkier" babies because the "pooch" above their penis pushes the foreskin down more. But omg, I guess it never crossed my mind really that it could or would reattach once he was this old...the circumcision has obviously healed! Yes, I clean it. Yes, I pull the skin back to clean. But I guess I wasn't doing it enough, and between his 9mo check up and his 1 yr check up, it reattached itself. The ped just "unattached" it but omg, that was rough! Poor little guy screamed. I felt like a terrible mother. Now I feel like a dirty perv messing with that thing so much every time I bathe or change him...don't want to have to go through that again. Oh one of the joys of being a mommy to a boy I guess!

We just had this conversation last week!!! I can't believe it, this happened to LO too but the doctor did not unattach it, she just said to push it back everyday and put on Vaseline and eventually I guess it will undo. She never mentioned unattaching it, I should ask her. I was wondering if this happened to anyone else, I appreciate you posting this.

Same here. Our pedi noticed when he was a few months old but omg that thing wants to keep reattaching! Diaper changes are tricky enough without this extra step!

I did know that, but to be honest, I have not been checking! We had his appt yesterday and the pedi looked in his diaper area and didn't comment on it, so I guess we're in the clear. My DS was circ'd at 8 months old though, not at birth. Not sure if that makes a difference?

Yes! We struggled with this from like 3 months to 10 months. No matter how far I pulled it back, after every single diaper, cleaning it every single time, I even showed my family who watched him, it always ended up attaching!! We would take him in like every 4 weeks and his ped would pull it apart : / Jackson would scream and it would bleed. Thankfully it has been good for the past couple of months...knock on wood.

How crazy you just posted this!! At Reece's one year the Pedi told us the same thing. We have been pulling it back every time, but must have not been doing it enough near the underside so that little part got reattached. She said they make a cream that we would have to use if it doesn't correct itself and apparently it works well. I am not sure what the cream is called though.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with this issue!  His ped checks it every time he goes in.  Everytime  she's said it's healed great.  So, I've thought nothing of it really.  I did notice that it looked a little different that last couple months but didn't really think anything of it.  I just felt so bad for him...I can't imagine how uncomfortable it was for him.  She said it would be sore for a few days and just be sure to pull it back and put vaseline on it for a few days.  It's all healed again now, of course, but I'm so paranoid that it's going to do it again.  I'll definitely keep an eye on it now...I just didn't know that it could/would happen at this age.

I am surprised she pulled it back like that if there is a cream available!! OWIE!!

According to a couple of different Peds that I've taken DS to through the years, it usually will fix itself during puberty.

Did you purchase the cream?? I have been using vaseline but I would if I should try this cream?

No not yet. Our pedi just told us about it. She said if us gradually pulling it down didn't work, she would perscribe this cream.

    OMG Naturegal!!

Thanks for posting, I didn't know this, nor did my pedi say anything about JB's, but I will make sure I keep cleaning it thoroughly to prevent this!

I am really scared about his doctors appoint me because of this. He was Circed at 3 months and it took about 5 months to heal. We had early sticking issues and now I am 70 per cent sure it is stuck.

Mirror, I was the same way...at his 9mo check up all was good.  At his 1yr check up it had reattached pretty much all the way around.  She said that as he grows, it should be fine and won't do it again, but she didn't give a specific time frame on that.
