Intro and Clomid IUI question

Hi.  I was recently diagnosed with Unexplained Infertility and would like to join you all on this board. Happy there is nothing specifically wrong with us but the diagnosis is frustrating.  Stopped BC September 2011.  I have had regular cycles, been temping, and using OPKs.  HSG, Saline Sono, and SA all normal.  My BW was normal but showed my Prolactin and Vitamin D were a little off but my RE wasn't too concerned and will repeat those tests.  I am taking a Vitamin D supplement.  AF should be here on Friday so I will be starting my first IUI with Clomid cycle.  Any advice?  Also what is the difference with starting Clomid on CD 3 or 5?  I usually O according to Fertility Friend on CD 14.  Will CD 3 or 5 starting Clomid typically make me O later or sooner or no way to tell?  Any feedback is appreciated.  Good luck to all of you.  Looking forward to getting to know you all.

HI! Welcome the the board! Sorry for the very frustrating diagnosis. I don't have experience with clomid yet so I'll let the others chime in on that. But good luck with this cycle! We will likely be cycle buddies as I am about to start my first IUI cycle as well. At this point I just want AF to start already.

My doctor specified what day he wanted me to take my clomid (cd3) - so I didn't have a choice. I am on my 4th round and have O'd anywhere from cd 11 to cd 15 on it (regular 28 day cycle). That being said everybody responds differently.

 Thanks for your response.  Nice that we will be cycle buddies. I want AF to start ASAP too but she will be here Thursday the earliest.  Oh well.

Good to know, thanks.  I have Parent- Teacher conferences on March 12th and it will probably be CD 12.  That day I will have night and evening conferences so I won't be able to go to the RE thats why I'm concerned and wondering if starting on CD 3 or CD5 would make a difference in not getting that date.  Did you have an IUI with Clomid?  If so how far in advance did you know when the IUI would be?  I will also be doing a trigger and I don't know how that works.  Thank you and good luck.

This is my first IUI with clomid - I went in for cd 12 monitoring and he said I had two follies that were ready, so we triggered and I went back on the afternoon of cd 13 for the IUI. Your RE should give you a game plan when you call in to say you're on cd1 and they prescribe the clomid. Make sure you're being monitored - you don't want to miss the window - or if the clomid causes a cyst/doesn't work.

Interesting.  I wasn't sure when I would have to go in for monitoring.  My RE said I will def be monitored I just didn't ask when. If its CD 12 then that may be the day of my Parent-teacher conferences...hmm.  It may be CD 13 and then based on what you are saying I could have the IUI then.  Uhh of course the 1 day I can't go in might be the day. I guess I will just have to wait and see.   Fingers crossed for you.

Welcome and good luck! I also was questioning why CD3 or CD 5? Why not CD4? Why the 2 day difference? I am glad to hear I'm not the only one with that question!

This is my first cycle on clomid so I'm not sure if its normal, but I usually O CD16 through CD18, but this cycle I O'ed on CD13. I started on CD5 as per my RE's request.

I have been taking Clomid on days 5 through 9 and ovulating around day 20 but I don't ovulate on my own so that may play a part in the slow response. I know for sure when my IUI will be about two days before.

I've started on cd4 and cd5 in my various cycles on clomid (we did three) and each time I was ready to trigger by cd12 or cd13.  But then I O on my own by cd15 anyway so it's not surprising.  Remember that everyone is different - for some, they go a little later so try not to worry too much (easier said than done).  Is your RE close to work? Because if monitoring falls during your parent-teacher conference you can just block out an hour that you'll be gone, and the good news is you won't need to have a sub or take a half day!  Usually my monitoring at my doctors office is from 6:45am-10:30am so really early appointments are possible and you wouldn't have to miss work at all!

I did Clomid CD5-9, had my monitoring appointment on CD13, ended up getting my positive OPK on CD16 ( I didn't trigger), and did the IUI that same day.

I normally O on my own between CD17-19 and have 29 day average cycles.

Your RE should lay out the full game plan for your cycle, but if it helps, I haven't had to miss any work at all. At my clinic you come in between 7:30am-8:30am any day of the week for any type of appointment, whether it be baseline, monitoring, or actual IUI.  Your clinic should have a pretty open schedule to accommodate lots of schedules.

 Thanks.  When you did the trigger did you do the IUI the next day?  My job isn't near my RE.  My RE is near my house.  They do have early morning monitoring so I can go in at 6:00 or 6:30 so I am fine if its just a monitoring appointment.  I'm just worried about that my IUI will fall on that day.  That is such a stressful day for me so having an IUI that day probably isn't the best idea.  Good luck to you.
