New to Preemie board

Hi ladies,

I'm new to the Preemie board and wanted to introduce myself before I started lurking for too long.  My son (our first) was born at 29 weeks, 5 days.  After 72 days in the NICU, he is now home and doing well.  He will be 7 months old next week (5 months adjusted on March 2).  From the posts I've read through, I think I should have come over here awhile ago as you seem to be a very supportive community!

I do have a quick question, do your pediatricians track your lo based on their actual age or their adjusted age?  Our pedi has been tracking Finn's height/weight based on his birthdate and not on his due date.  I didn't get the sense that this was normal.

Thanks!  I look forward to getting to know you all better.

  • Welcome!

Our pedi bases my twins' weight and height on their bday too. They started off at the bottom of the charts but as long as I see upward movement I am happy.

Their pedi bases all other milestones on their due date though.

  • Welcome and congrats! Our pedi also charts DD at her actual age, but he will also check her adjusted. Same as PP though she's def on the lower end but following her own upward curve. I think as long as they are following their own curve it may not matter as much where they are charting. HTH

  • Thanks, ladies!  It is fun to watch him shoot up the charts (once he made it on).

  • Welcome! My boys were born at 29w4d 10.5 months ago. Our pedi does height/weight based on actual and adjusted age. She usually prints two charts for us.

  • My pedi did Adalyn's weight and height based on her actual age and not her adjusted.  She said that they used to do that, but that their practice changed in the last few years.  She said that as long as she is on her own growth curve, then we're good to go.  She finally made it on the charts at her 9 month appointment (barely) at something like 2 percentile.  I wonder what she'll be on Thursday when we go for her 12-month!

  • Congrats on your baby! Our pedi tracks according to her actual age, but we also see a developmental specialist who tracks her according to her adjusted age, so we get both views.

  • Welcome and congratulations!

Yeah my pedi actually tracks C's weight/height on her actual birth date, not her adjusted age.

  • Welcome! We are still in the trenches with our 26 weeker. So far she is actually keeping up with the curve for her gestational age so we hope it continues!
