I recently went back to work and DD was exclusively BF. now that I'm back and work and she goes to Nana's during the day I want her to keep getting breast milk. I'm only back at work part time (2-3 days a week) and BFing her when I'm home. I'm a registered veterinary technician and I barely have time to pump during the day. The only time I get to pump is at lunch (which is around 1 or 2 in the afternoon). I feed her before work from the breast and when I get home, but during the day she gets a bottle (started having to be formula because I didn't get a chance to start a stock when I wasn't working).
I guess my question is will my milk dry up quickly now that she isn't drinking from the breast all day everyday and I can't pump often at work? Help! TIA
Re: BF/pumping question
Since you've already been nursing a couple months, your body should adjust just fine. I would just make sure you nurse before work and when you get home. Since you can pump once during the day that's good. You may also want to pump after your morning feeding and after you feed her when you get home because you will be pretty full those times too.
With DS, I went back to work when he was 3 1/2 months. I would nurse that pump in the morning and then go all day until about 4pm when I would nurse and then pump, then nurse and pump again around 8. It wasn't ideal but it was impossible for me to pump at work. I was able to do that for about 3 months. Once he started eating solids we switched to formula because I was sick of the pumping.... but it worked.
