just curious when they test for gd - is there a specific week or timeframe? can it be avoided through proper diet and exercise, or do some women just get it? my little sister is type 1 diabetic, but my obgyn said there's no correlation to that...

Re: when do they test for gd?
Some people are able to control it with diet AFTER they have been diagnosed. There are certain things like being overweight, too much amniotic fluid, family history of GD that increase your risk for developing it, but any woman who is pregnant is at risk to GD. Some woman mistakenly think because they eat a healthy diet, stay away from sugar, work out, or are healthy and fit that they aren't at risk.Every pregnant woman is at risk.

They generally test between 26-28 weeks, unless they have a reason to test sooner like sugar in your urine.
if you have certain risks (family history, multiples, or a few other things) they will test earlier. I have mine this weekend. (my one hour glucose test)
To know for sure, ask your doctor, different offices have different policies.
That article in the PP explains it REALLY WELL!
Thank you! Very helpful!
