Those that gained weight in thighs/butt

The first ten or fifteen pounds I gained in pregnancy went straight to my thighs and butt and six weeks pp that booty weight hasn't budged.  How did you lose your lower half weight?  I started back running this week and know that will eventually help.  I eat healthy but can't diet really bc I am bfing.  None of my pants will fit and I really can't afford a new wardrobe.  Any workout tips or success stories are greatly appreciated!

  • I've always been pear-shaped, and pregnancy just made it worse.... sadly, I have no advice, just commiseration!  Good luck.

  • I gained some of my weight there and my best friend who is a personal trainer is having me do tons of squats and lunges to tone them back up.
  • I also gained in my thighs and rear.  The running should definetly help.  I power walk with DS in stroller about 4 miles 4-5 x's a week.  I also do 3 sets of 40 lunges during our walk, it really seem to help.
  • About two weeks ago, my hips and thighs went back to normal on its own.  I did not work out or anything.

  • I trained for a half-marathon (ran it last Sunday).  Although I don't think you need to do that :), running 3-4 days a week really helped me to loose the weight.  I'm back in my pp clothes and only have 5 lbs left to loose, I think mostly in my belly.  I think my butt and thighs of my pants actually feel looser than before I got pg.

  • First off, if that's you in your pic there to the right, I'm super jealous because you already look skinny enough! ;) (And I love your DD's name btw, my real first names ends with leigh... :)

Anyway, I have been trying to just do stupid little things with DD, like when she's in her jumper, I'll do butt flexes or leg lifts while I'm on the floor making faces at her... I actually get quite a few done that way! We'll see how much that actually helps though, because I'm pretty sure my hips are now permanently wider, so I'm not sure my old jeans will ever quite "feel" the same, even if they fit! :)

BTW, the fact that you're a runner will probably help enough, I wish I had time for some cardio!

  • I am right there with you, except I think the first 10 and the last 10 went there.  I got so I couldn't even fit my maternity pants over my thighs.  The running is going to be huge. DH is a personal trainer and recommends I do a lot of lower body exercises that are also cardio. Such as lunges, squats, step ups, jump rope, jumping(like over step arobic boxes)  I hope to start spinning here soon.  Good luck!
  • I agree with pp; you are gorgeous in your siggy!!  i think the cardio will help you.  i also gained weight in my thighs/butt and it is slowly going away with Weight Watchers.  i havent exercised much though, but i hope to when DS is in daycare.
