Yesterday my OB told me that even if I carried these babies until 37-38 weeks, they would probably be no more than 6.5 lbs each. Right now, I'm 32 weeks and at my growth scan at 31 weeks they were measuring at 4 lbs. 5 oz and 4 lbs 1 oz.
My singleton was nine pounds and I remember her swimming in the newborn clothes when we left the hospital.
Is it worth investing in 2-4 preemie sleepers?

My boys were swimming in newborn clothes at 6.9 and 6.12, but I found the Zutano brand at Target runs a little smaller than regular newborn, so those fit perfect!

Lost our first little peanut on 1/17/2012 at 9 weeks and 5 days. We miss you little blessing, but we know you were too perfect for this world.

We had preemie onesies, but didn't use them for very long. Maybe a couple days. We just had them in onesies and their Halo sleep sacks or swaddled in blankets. It was warmer then, so that made a difference.
NB sized stuff was great after about a week for us. (6-14 and 5-4 babies)

My girls were 4.13 and 6.2 and we used preemie clothes for several weeks, obvs. a little longer for my peanut. I had NO clothes that fit them (even though I was warned, I really didn't think they'd be that small) and my mom and MIL were able to pick stuff up at Kmart, Walmart and CL.
If you have someone who is able to run out and pick up a few preemie outfits after they are born, I'd wait. It's so hard to predict.

My girls were born at 38w1d. They were 6lb5oz and 6lb3oz when they came home, but both were 19" long. They lost another half pound in the first week (we were displaced by Sandy for a while), but they were still too long for preemie stuff.
If you're really going to need them, you can have someone pick you up a few things while you're in the hospital. They wore the kimono style tshirts and diapers while there; our hospital discouraged anything other than what they supplied, including hats!
