Trouble TTC

Aunt Flo after IUI - PCOS Qs

Hi. I'm a newbie to this board. Been posting on Trying to get pregnant.

Sigh. So a little depressing and heartbroken. Whyyyy Aunt Flo?!?! Just two more days till my 2ww period before I can take a pregnancy test!!  Thought this first IUI was gonna be it. ;(  And then not only am I heartbroken. I'm feeling like an anxiety attack is coming on after speaking with my RE office. The nurse told me that they are now having their patients do the ovulation tests at home instead of coming in for Ultrasounds. I've tried the OPT before and have yet have it work for me. I've also read and was told by my RE before that they sometimes don't work with PCOS patients.

Has anyone with PCOS have luck with the OPT? Does it matter time of day? How often do you test? Once or twice a day? Do you feel the digital displays are a little less stressful because there's less confusion on whether or not the line is as dark as the other.

Re: Aunt Flo after IUI - PCOS Qs

  • Hi there, you should not be on meds without appropriate ultrasounds.  Wasting money on an IUI without an ultrasound is craziness to me.

  • Sorry it didn't work out! I agree with everyone else that you might want to look for another RE. I don't have PCOS but I have never had luck with OPTs, so I would be having an anxiety attack too if that's all my RE relied on.
TTC since Nov 2010 now moving on to Foster-Adopt! All welcome

  • My old RE gave the same instructions and I had the same problem.  I never had luck with them prior, so I demanded an ulstrasound to be sure we were not wasting our money.

Tell them you need to be monitored or you'll be looking for a new RE.  GL!

  • I also have PCOS and never had good luck with the OPKs with the lines. The Clearblue Easy ones that give you either the smiley or frowny face worked for me. You should test around the same time each day.

However we only used those in addition to our monitoring ultrasounds and bloodwork during our Clomid and TI cycles only. I would not rely on an OPK for IUI. What meds are you taking? Are you using a trigger shot? Are you taking your BBT?

TTC #1 since May 2006 - We thought we were done in 2010, but we are back again!
PCOS (anovulatory and amenorrhea) and hypothyroid.
Currently taking Metformin 1500 MG and Synthroid.
Prior HSG and DH SAs were clear.
Feb 2013 - Switched clinics/RE and starting from the beginning again with some modifications.
Current status: CD 3 appointment showed lining was too thick (11.5 mm). Endometrial biopsy scheduled for CD 11. Next steps will be based on results.
    All welcome to respond.
