Re: Mei Tai Suggestions

  • I can't speak for the other brands, but I have the Infantino mei tai and I like it a lot. The instructional video shows the woman wearing her toddler, so I think you can use it for quite a while. The material is thick and of good quality and the straps are padded, but the open sides might allow for some air flow to keep it cool.

We aren't using ours much right now, as LO is in kind of an awkward stage. He's over 16 lbs but only 3 months old and not very tall, and he's not big enough for the hug hold, as it stretches his legs out too far. But the newborn hold is uncomfortable because he's so heavy and he sinks down and puts a lot of pressure on his feet. Once he gets a little bigger, I think it will be great.

  • I personally wouldn't do either the babyhawk or infantino if you are already at that size at 4 months - both are great but they will be outgrown more quickly.  If you want cheap and easy to find, the Kozy is a good option as it has a much larger body.  Many people like a padded waist with heavier babies...unfortunately there aren't too many brands that are easy to get a hold of with padded waists - your best bet is to keep an eye out for used ones on thebabywearer.com or facebook swap.

  • I have a freehand and if I remember correctly, it goes up to 35 lbs. I got a good deal on one new but I am sure you can find one used as well. I have been very happy with it but I do not wear my baby as often as some.
