Heart rate monitors?

I'm very active and love working out. My ob was pretty stern yesterday about not letting my heart rate go over 140, which seems crazy to me since my body is very used to intense exercise. I know I need to tone down my exercise a bit. Anyone use a heart rate monitor while exercising that you liked? How much was it?

Re: Heart rate monitors?

  • I do, I do!!  I have a garmin, which also does distance and such too.  It's fantastic!  I use it for running mostly but you could also use it for the heart rate monitor alone  while indoors.  Can probably get the older model (which I like better than the newer touch screen ones) for $125-$150.  My husband and I swear by them and such a good investment.
  • That is really outdated info.  Do what you're used to at this point and just listen to your body

This. There are a lot of women that keep running/working out thoughout their whole pg. And I'm pretty sure that their HR was over 140. I say just listen to your body, and dont try to set any personal best.

  • I recommend Polar heart rate monitors.  You can get a simple one that just does the heart rate for around $60-70.  Since it sounds like you're an avid exerciser, just listen to your body.  Don't go as hard as you usually do but you also don't have to stop running if you're used to running.  You know your body.
