I posted a few weeks ago about going to a local ER and sitting in the waiting room for 7 hours. I was called back for a few minutes and they took my vitals, but was never seen by a doctor, I left around 1 am. I ended up getting a bill for $400.
After calling insurance and telling them what was going on, they still decided to pay $240 towards the bill. I called the hospital about the $160 balance. They offered to give me a 20% discount towards the bill, which brought me down to $128 balance and they were not willing to work with me any further. I asked to break the payment into two payments and the lady was very rude.
I ended up calling the head of customer service and she put a hold on the account, while she investigated it. She called me back today and said they were writing off the balance and I was not going to have to pay any money. So, it worked out.. thankfully!
Re: Update to ER Bill without being seen....
Me too. I was so close to just putting the $128 on a credit card to just get it over with, because I didn't want it to effect my credit. I am glad I called the lady. She was very nice and the ONLY person who agreed with me that the charges were outrageous. Everyone else I talked to was always so shocked that I was complaining about the charges.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

I don't know. I've been biting my tongue over all of your posts about this. If you can't afford $128, why did you go to the ER if you weren't that ill that you didn't even stay? I'm not shocked that a hospital in the US would charge an ridiculous amount for you to sit there and not get seen by a doctor. Are you? Of course you're pissed that it happened, but is it really that shocking?
This is like people getting a parking ticket and trying to get out of it when they know full well they parked there and didn't plug the meter.
Maybe I should save this for UO or FFFC.
