Cloth Diapering

wipes solution

Ok folks, talk to me about your wipes solutions. I have a ton of cloth wipes but I'm hoping to keep them pre moistened.
1. What kind of solution do you use?
2. How well does it keep if you keep them pre moistened? Should I just throw the pre moistened wipes in with each diaper load regardless of whether or not they get used?

Re: wipes solution

  • I've asked that here and plain ol' water was suggested the most.  Keep a peri bottle with some water to moisten as you go.  That is pretty much what I got from lurking and asking!  Hope that helps!

  • We're back to using water from the faucet every time now, but what worked the best for us was a pitcher on the changing table. I put water with a little bit of baby wash in it, and I'd put a wipe in and then wring it out. I didn't know how to make the peri bottle work without dripping water all over the place.

  • Water worked best for me.  That way you don't have to worry about having more soap to rinse when you're washing your diapers.

I use a peri bottle.  My wipes are stored in an old disposable wipes container with the top missing.  I just spray them down as I need them.  The excess water is in the container.

The only time I pre-wet my wipes is when I was home on leave.  I don't use enough of them otherwise.

  • I use a wipe warmer and pre moisten. My solution is filling the bathroom sink with warm water, use a little baby wash and a little bit (~1T) of vinegar. I get all the wipes wet, wring them out, put in the warmer, drain the sink.

  • I bought a spray bottle from the travel section at target and make a solution every few days.  Because we have a problem with recurrent yeast, I use 5-6 drops TTO, 5-6 drops GFSE, and a half a tablespoon of coconut oil in water. I tried premoistening them and found that the coconut oil was hardening and all the wipes were getting stuck together. So now I spray as needed.

  • I use Bee Green Naturals cubes and add 4-5 drops of TTO to the solution. I keep it in a squirtable water bottle and just squirt each wipe prior to use. It's so simple and easy!

  • My favorite way to do wipes is use a plastic container to store a wettened batch of wipes. My solution is (approx):

    1.5 cups water

1 squirt Burts Bees baby wash

1 squirt Burts Bees apricot oil (not necessary)

several drops of tea tree oil

2 T of aloe vera, if I have it

I haven't made wipes in ages. I have a 23 mo in diapers (and a 3.5yo) and have been buying target wipes. I need to start making them again though.

For the wipes themselves, I have squares of washed flannel that I snipped and tore into squares. I fold them over once and make a stack. When I wet them, I lay a stack of 8 or so in the container, pour some of the mix on, lay several more, pour more mix, and so on. They get evenly wetted that way and keeps some from being sopping. The TTO helps them keep for a week or so if I don't get to them all.  I keep a container with a spare spoon and the supplies in the bathroom so everything can be mixed there.

Your post has motivated me to do them again! They're really a breeze to make and maintain.

  • I did the pre-moistened at first and kept them in a wipe warmer, but realized how easily it was to have the musty old smell, and I didn't like it.

Now I use a peri bottle and keep the wipes dry, SO MUCH EASIER... full of warm water & add 1tsp baby oil, 1tsp baby soap, 3 drops tea tree oil.
