So at our growth scan last week the tech as soon as she walked into the room said " So your having boy/girl twins right?" We told her it was a surprise and shrugged it off. Later the doctor came in and was telling us we could have the rest of our appts with my OB since we were having a complication free "fraternal" pregnancy. So I am pretty sure they ruined the surprise. Our twins are Di/Di so we were pretty sure they were fraternal but to be so adamant.
Re: MFM practice ruined the surprise...
Unexplained Infertility
After two Clomid cycles, three injectable IUI cycles, two IVFs, two miscarriages, and one lap surgery, IVF #2 has brought us our little boy!
TTC #2
After months of being postponed or cancelled, FET #1.3 (Natural FET) brought us twin girls!
I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. I would find it very hard to keep straight which patients I was supposed to be keeping secrets from.
I don't think anything about the birth will be anti-climactic Most people know the genders beforehand and it is PLENTY exciting! And add me to the list of people who love having B/G twins - it is awesome.
Aw, I'm sorry! that stinks.
I'm sure the birth will still be plenty exciting though.
aww. I would have cried and had a b* fit... but I'm highly emotional normally
I think I'll bring a post-it note for the monitors of the u/s machine : WE DON'T WANT TO KNOW SEX
I'm still weeks away from them seeing it though, so I'll probably forget.
This. I am having fraternal twin BOYS. Have you had your a/s and it was in your chart or are you going off the fact they are fraternal? Fraternal means you have a chance at one of each not that they are for sure unless an a/s has been performed and the sexes were noted in your chart. If you did and the nurse ruined it by blurting it out like that, then that does suck and I am sorry the surprise was ruined, but if it is based on the fact they are simply fraternal than you can't go on that alone.
For me, knowing the genders beforehand did not make the birth anti-climatic for me. It didn't matter that I had an u/s every month and was reassured each time what their genders were, I wasn't convinced that they weren't wrong until they were actually born.
I don't have any scientific journals to reference, but on one of those "behind the scenes" type shows that was on when they were finally coming to adulthood... talked all about their childhood and all that. Said that it was a common misconception that they are Identical and in fact are actually Fraternal.
ETA: Regardless, Fraternal does not mean boy/girl twins. It means di/di twins.
