I have been formula feeding since about week one. I follow the directions on the back of the powder formula container and it says to measure out the water then add the powder. So now I measure out 6 oz of water and add three scoops. Now the bottle has 7oz +. Does this mean LO is eating the 7+ and not 6 oz. I am a FTM and I know this sounds silly but I am beginning to wonder if I am feeding too much. Everyone seem shocked that she eats so much.
Re: Am I overfeeding?
You use 6oz of water, therefore it's a 6oz bottle. It rises because you're adding something to it. Same principle as adding ice to a glass of water. The water level may rise, but you're still drinking the same amount of water.
DD was eating 5.5 - 6 oz at 3m. At 4.5m she's up to 8oz for breakfast, and 7oz the other three bottles of the day. Some days more, some days less. She drinks an average of 28-30 oz a day.

Actually, I remember learning that you're not drinking the same amount of water, because the ice will melt and then you're drinking that.
I had the same question, because, I make LO 5oz of water and it becomes 6 oz...and this is what I think. If I would make all the formula in the morning, in a big pitcher, and then pour out each individual bottle, I'd pour out 5, but because I make them individually, she actually eats around 6. At the end of the day, you're not really overfeeding unless you force feed every single drop that's in the bottle, and an oz up or down per bottle, is only 4-5 oz (in my case) and it's not that much. My LO leaves <1oz in most of her bottles, sometimes more, sometimes less..they should stop when they're full, just don't push it. They'll puke it all up, anyways. I measure out 25oz of water in the morning and she never needs more than that...Sometimes I throw some out, but not much, and there is the very rare occasion when she wants more.
