1st Trimester

Heart Racing

Has anyone else experienced random rapid heart rate? All of a sudden it will feel like my heart is beating out of my chest, but normally passes fairly quickly.

Re: Heart Racing

  • Yes, I remember experiencing this on and off during the first trimester. It worried me a little at first...and I thought it was happening because of anxiety. Turns out it's just another pregnancy symptom! I wouldn't worry unless it's happening quite frequently and lasts a while. Definitely let your doc know at the next appt though!

  • I feel it too! Or just doing moderate walking...I'm thinking really!!!
  • Thanks for the responses! It makes me feel better that I'm not the only one- amazing how many parts of our body pregnancy affects! I wonder what causes it?  I'm planning on bringing it up at my next appt,

  • I am so happy you posted about this! I was just searching online to read about it. I have the same thing happen to me. I thought it was anxiety at first, but then it would just happen when I wasn't anxious. It almost feels like my adrenalin kicks in. But doesnt last real long at all. Weird!

  • That's a good way of explaining it, that's what confused me about it too, that it seemingly happened at random (not after anything strenuous, or thinking of anything that would give me anxiety).

  • This happened a lot through the first tri when I was pregnant with DS, but I have a tachycardia so I figured being pregnant was just aggravating it.  I've heard that it is normal during pregnancy, though.

  • So glad I am not the only one! (Not that I'm happy the rest of you are going through it too...). I have been so worried about it and thought it was all anxiety, but happened to read in my Mayo Clinic book a few nights ago, that is very common in 1st trimester. I don't have the best memory right now...but it said something along the lines of it being due to all the increased blood flow we have going on right now, and therefore increased circulation, more rapid/'loud' heart beat, etc. Don't hold me to the exact medical part of it, but yes, apparently we are perfectly normal right now :)

  • Yes, I have this and shortness of breath.  It can be scary.

  • Yes, I have this and palpitations.  It's scary and annoying but everything I've read says it is normal!
