Does throwing up help you feel better?

I'm 9 weeks pregnant, and so far in this pregnancy, I've been getting occasional waves of nausea, but I haven't thrown up at all. Today, I've been feeling more nauseated than usual, and it has lasted all day long. I have a sore throat and cough, so I think that's part of the problem, and every time I have a coughing spell, I feel like I'm about to throw up. I haven't yet, but I know that I could if I let myself. For those of you with morning sickness, does throwing up help you feel better, or does it make the nausea worse?

Re: Does throwing up help you feel better?

  • It really depends for me. Sometimes it does make me feel better. Sometimes I feel just as crappy as before.

  • I've had nausea no vomiting. I know what you mean with the coughing... I am convinced that puking will make me feel worse despite knowing it usually helps me... but I don't want to puke and start getting morning sickness. lol

  • I always get a little relief after I throw up, sometimes it lasts longer than other times but there is always at least an hour of feeling 'better'

  • Food was the only thing that made me feel better (for an hour, then I'd have to have more crackers or something).   I never vomited, but there were days like you described where I was sure I was going to.

For me too.  Even when it does make me feel better, it's only for a few minutes.

  • I found it to be a temporary relief when I was pregnant with DS.
  • I am also 9 weeks and everytime I feel like I am going to be sick if I make my self sick I feel 100 times better. probably not that healthy but it does make me feel better
  • It makes me feel better for a little while and then the nausea comes back unfortunately. But that brief time period of feeling better, I can normally eat something to get the queasy feeling under control.
