Dashiell?

What is the general opinion on this board? I think it's a GP name for me, but use the NN Dash (like from The Incredibles).

The mom in The Incredibles said dash-ell, so that's what I'm going with lol. I might also be spelling it wrong...

It is too matchy with DS's name though...

DD #1 had a Dashel in her class (pronounced and spelled this way) and I was never a fan.  I don't get the appeal.

I've always heard it pronounced Dash-uhl (I believe the same as you're pronunciation key of Dash-ell.) It's two syllables, not three.

You know what?! For me, this was kind of a GP name... but I think I'm going to add it to my list.  Will ask DH about it tonight!

Correct. This is my DS' name, and that's how we say it.

Obviously, I think it's a great name, and I would say the feedback from other people has been very positive.

Dashiell Hammett is a well-known author, and he was born in 1894, so the name actually has been around for a while. It's just never cracked the top 1,000.

I think of Dashiell Hammett as well, so I think it's literary and cool. I don't think I would use it, but I would love to see it on a kid.

I love Dashiell - but I've also ready every Thin Man novel/seen every movie.  It would have been on our list if it worked with our last name.

It may not have to stay a GP name for me; I asked DH what he thought about it, and he likes it (not Dashiell, but just Dash...I don't know if I could do just Dash though)!

This is a GP name for me too...ever since I started reading about Dashiell Hammett it's stuck with me.

Although spelled completely different, this is actually my maiden name and I still don't care for it as a first name.
