What straw sippies have you had success with?

I can't seem to get my LO interested in a sippy cup.  He totally gets the tipping back motion and everything, but he takes one sip and is done.  I want to try a straw cup but don't know which would be best for beginners.

My older LO has about 5 different kinds here but they all seem like you have to suck really hard.

Which have you had luck with?

  • My oldest only ever used the Nuby straw cup.  He never really caught on to the spout style sippies, but he loved the Nuby straw cups.  They annoyed me that the straw always flung milk when he opened it up, but oh well.

We still do the Playtex Little Grippers straw cups.  You can squeeze the bottom a bit to move the liquid up the straw to help LO get the hang of it at first.

This!  We love them.  I have tried Nuby products and don't like them as well.

  • Another vote for the Zoli cup... a little pricey but terrific.  We also love our Lollacup - again, a little expensive, but very cute and extremely functional.  Neither leak and are both extremely easy to suck (I tried one - maybe it was a Nuby? - where you had to bite and suck at the same time to get liquid to come out.  I thought it was hard for me!)  Both the Zoli and the Lolla have handles, which make it easy for the kiddos to grip them (and the Lolla's handles come off, so that you can put it in a cup-holder).

We really like the Zoli straw sippy. The straw is weighted so it works with only a little bit of liquid in the bottom and any way they tip it.  It has a narrow opening and I think LO has to work to get liquid, but she can keep up with it that way - we also have a playtex one with an opening that is just like a regular straw, but with that one she dribbles most of it down her chin because it comes out too fast.

My son does great with the Zoli, too. I love the weighted straw and we never have any leaks. I'd definitely recommend it.

  • We love Zoli too.
  • Tommee Tippee.  They very rarely leak too!  DS1 loves them.

this! we taught LO to drink from a straw by trapping water in a straw with our fingers, putting the straw in her mouth and letting go. she caught on within a week and was reaching for every straw she saw, so we got her some sippys
