Trouble TTC

infertility week

I'm really thinking about writing something on facebook during infertility awareness week. Not sure if a status update or post the ribbon as my picture. I'm just nervous. Not sure if i will be brave enough. Have any of you ladies ever done this?

  • I'm a pretty private person, so I don't really foresee posting anything IF related on facebook, since I have so many FB "friends" that I wouldn't consider IRL friends.  Lots of acquaintances, people I keep around for networking purposes from past jobs, etc.  That said, I do like the idea of posting the ribbon as a profile pic or even just on your timeline. If I ever posted anything I would probably do that.  When is IF awareness week?

  • I have been thinking about Facebook a lot lately and the whole coming out thing. I probably would if I didn't have coworkers as friends on FB, which was not my choice, haha. But I think if and when I'm finally PG and ready to announce, I'm going to come out about my IF. I definitely plan to not be all crazy with the PG pics and status updates like some people, but I would at least like to do some, especially since we have a lot of family and friends OOT. So my plan is for every pic or update I do that's PG related, I plan to do one post of IF awareness or an inspirational quote or something like that so that if there are others out there in the "darkness" like we are now, that will at least maybe help them or provide hope or at least not make them hate me, haha. What do you think? Is that cheesy?

And sorry about grammar, phone bumping.

I love this idea! Anytime I find myself offended by baby and pregnancies complaints or constant updates on FB, the thought that rolls around in my mind is "don't they know some people can't have babies. Why don't they care."  I think that if someone did what you explained then I would at least feel a bit validated. It won't work for everyone but it might for some. I'd love to come out during IF week, but the i'm just not sure I will. I do know that I'd say something about IF if I announce a BFP one day like you said. I had a friend do that recently after her IVF and I had no idea she was going through this. Turns out we are going to the same clinic and it was wonderful to talk to her about it. We would have never know that if she hadn't put something about it on FB.

  • I have considered it except I am just not comfortable with some people (specifically my ILs) knowing because I know they would a) blame me and b) it would be a huge source of gossip for them. I might come out to more friends about it at that point though but it will just depend on what's happening with us- by end of April we will know if any of our three IUIs worked.

  • I like the idea of posting the ribbon or something. I'm "out" with my family and some friends, and I would be willing to talk about it with others, but I'm not sure DH is ready for that.

The ribbon would be a nice way to put it out there. Then if someone I wasn't comfortable taking to about it said something, I could say I was just showing support for a friend. But it could open the door for others who may be going through it to talk about it with me.

  • I really want to do it.. but my family doesn't even know we are TTC and I want to keep it that way. As soon as I get KU I will blast away about it though.. I can't wait for that day.

  • Here's a link from my status messages from last year: https://www.invisiblefinishline.blogspot.com/2012/04/awareness.html

To the person who said they were worried about people PMing or wanting specifics, I actually didn't have anything but positive PMs from people saying the love me, are proud of me, and are here for me if I need to talk. No one asked about specifics. You have to decide your boundaries - I'll be open about the fact that we're IF, but I will not disclose our exact diagnoses publicly in a place like FB. If someone PM'd me, I would say we each have diagnoses. I would not disclose my husband's counts out of respect for him. If you or anyone are considering coming "out" but have reservations or don't agree with your spouse, I'd highly recommend having a discussion with them about what you're each comfortable with and making some compromises.
