Trouble TTC

multple vs. single IUIs & Timing with Frozen sperm

Does your RE do one or two IUIs per cycle? What have you found about it and how are you weighing it?

Our RE has recommended that we do only one IUI per cycle, and says that there is little evidence that a well-timed IUI is better than two back to back. That said - the TIMING is the one that I'm feeling anxious about. The totally missed the boat on our first cycle, and did the IUI a good 36 hours before I ovulated (argh!), and the 2nd was timed okay at 36 hours after the trigger.

We are 100% OOP, and paying for donor sperm at $800 a vial. Because I have DOR I want to really maximize the next 2 cycles we do because I'm not sure how long we can sustain the IUI process financially.

We're going to do an injectable cycle next - and are considering doing 2 B2B iui's to take some of the anxiety of the timing away, and really maximize our chances given that we're using frozen sperm.

Re: multple vs. single IUIs & Timing with Frozen sperm

  • My Dr does IUI at 12 hrs and 24 hrs after trigger.
    Me: 32, DH: 34.
Trying since Jan 2011. Unexplained IF.
    2 IUIs = BFN.

Twin Girls - 02/11/15 - at 37 weeks (no NICU, home with me at 3 days).

  • My RE does IUI 24 hrs after trigger because he wants sperm there and ready to meet the egg when it releases. But, I also have MH to help out after the IUI as well so it takes some of the pressure off for us..

Don't know how much this helps, but wanted to say GL! I'm sure it has to be stressful.

  • my RE doesnt offer more than one iui. she only does one at 24 hours after trigger. do they split the sperm vial up between the 2? If not I would do 1. If they do I would do 2. Good luck on your decision

  • I've been to two RE's now and have down two IUIs. Both of them had us trigger in the am then do an IUI 24 hrs later. If some/all eggs had not dropped yet (which they didn't in both cases), then they had me come in again the next morning (24 hrs later). GL to you!
