Morning Poll: Holiday Traditions

We are so excited the holidays are coming up & can't wait to experience them for the 1st time w/ baby A. What are your holiday traditions that you look forward to each year and/or look forward to introducing to your DC this year??

Us: X'mas eve w/ ILs...open up gifts from grandparents & godparents. And when we come home we'll open up 1 gift from Santa...new PJs to wear Xmas morning. And the gift will be wrapped in "Santa's paper" (red...which we'll stick to each year). X'mas morning is spent just with us as a family - opening up our gifts at home and having brunch.

Re: Morning Poll: Holiday Traditions

  • Our main holiday tradition is to celbrate X-mas with my side of the family on X-mas Eve.  We have done this ever since I was a child and we still do it to this day.  My dad gets all fired up if anyone tries to change it....I laugh at him, but on the inside I feel the same way.  It's always chaotic and drives me crazy, but I wouldn't have it anyother way.  We take my SS's to it now and so they get excited that they get to open presents early.

  • When we are in CA: Xmas eve is the extended family at someone's house. We do a gift exchange and white elephant and finger foods. We wake up Christmas morning and go over to my ILs and open up presents for about 6 hours. Then my MIL cooks dinner and we hang out until dinner. Next year when E is born, we will have our family christmas at our house first and then go over to the ILs later that morning.

When we are in NC: Christmas eve is spent at the house where I grew up, and people stop by for dinner and carolling. Then we go to our respective churches for services. We come home and go to bed to wait for Santa. Christmas morning we get up and see what Santa brought and have blueberry muffins and open presents for about an hour. Then we have leftovers from the night before for lunch. After that DH and I usually leave to drive to GA for Christmas with our godchildren. We spend a few days there and then fly back to CA.

  • We started the tradition of getting a new pair of Christmas Jammies on Christmas Eve, then we sit and watch a family movie with hot chocolate and cookies. ?This year we will put out carrots, milk and cookies for santa as well.
  • I announced last Christmas that with a baby, we're spending XMas at home and if people want to see us, they need to come to our house.

We've always been the ones who spend all day in the car... my sister is in Concord, my parents in Dublin, SIL in Sunnyvale, MIL in La Honda. We do XMas Eve with one group and XMas morning with the other. I'm not leaving my house this year... I want Max's first XMas to be at home.

We haven't figured out all the deets yet, so I don't know who's coming when! I do know Max will gt new jammies on XMas Eve and we'll open stockings in the morning.

Other than that, it's up in the air!

  • Our usual tradition is to head over to SIL's for xmas eve. Its usually a big fancy dinner, and then the adults open their 'secret santa' gifts after the kiddos have gone to sleep.

In the past we have gone straight over to SIL's in the morning and watched nephew/niece open presents but this year we are planning to stay home in the morning and just celebrate with us as a family and have a small brunch. (hoping to start this tradition, so next year with a baby the expectations is there) Then in the afternoon we will make our rounds to family in the area.
