NBR cleaning with a toddler

I have been having such a huge nesting feeling lately and want to scrub down my house but I can't get enought motivation to do it. Our son's 2nd birthday party is this Saturday and then we leave for Orlando on Sunday so I need to get it done. I would have to do it at night since it is impossible to clean with a 2 year old up and around. He is into everything. Does anybody have any tips as to how you clean with your toddler without having to stop every 2 seconds to get them out of mischief?

Re: NBR cleaning with a toddler

  • Well, I try to do the cleaning during nap or bedtime. But while he's awake if it's something he can't "help" with, I put him in baby jail. I just put a gate up so he has to play in his room.

At this age though he really loves to help, so I let him hand me dishes from the dishwasher or push the vacuum . Or I give him the handheld vacuum, a duster, a dry sponge/brush if I'm cleaning the bathrooms. DS also loves to "wash" dishes while I clean up the kitchen. HTH!

  • DD absolutely loves to use a swiffer duster that we have.  So when DH and I are cleaning, I'll bring out the swiffer and she will just follow me and "dust" everything (tables, couches, floors, walls, windows, the dogs, etc.).  If she gets bored with that I'll let her vacuum with the little extender that comes off the vacuum.  I think just making any of the cleaning tools fun for them may do the trick.  Although, if we're using chemicals, we do that during naptime on the weekends.
  • Honestly, I call grandma to see if she can watch him.

The only way I can get dinner cooked it to put on a Choo-choo movie or a puppy movie.
