Updated...Beginning FEMARA cycle

Update: dang it people. I don't like being blindsided. Clomid was what RE and I discussed weeks ago, but when I called to check if Rx was ready, I was informed it was 69 and it was Femara. Well awesome! Because I really don't know what the protocol for that is. Isn't it fairly close to Clomid?

Of course the REs lines are rolled to an answering service and I can't reach them now to even ask questions, mainly why? So just ignore the question below. Or fill me in on Femara?



RE wants to start me on Clomid this month. Today is CD 1.

I'm already scheduled for the monitoring US for next week and the Rx is called in. Unfortunately, I'm at work and couldn't get away from my console and partners to discuss the cycle protocol with the nurse.

She knew I was busy and made sure to get the monitoring US scheduled before we hung up.

I know these are newb like questions, but can you walk me through the standard Clomid cycle and what to expect at the appointments? Thanks!



Me: 32 DH: 31.
B/W: good. SA: good.
November 2012: Paratubal cyst found during U/S.
January 10, 2013: Lap removed paratubal cyst and Stage 2 Endometriosis. 
3 cycles of Femara + TI = BFNs

June 2013: Femara 2.5 mg, Gonal F Injects 37.5 IU, Menopur, trigger + IUI = BFN

July 2013: Femara 2.5 mg, Gonal F Injects 75 IU, Menopur, trigger + IUI = BFP!!!!

Beta 1 @ 11 DPIUI = 76. Progesterone = 27.3

BFP 8/16/2013 // EDD 4/28/2014

Jordan Samuel born April 19, 2014. 6 lb, 12 oz and 18 inches long.

    I have bloodwork and an u/s on CD3, Clomid 3-7 (this can vary) and another u/s around CD12 to check response and more labs.

    eta forgot a step!
    TTC#2 Since July 2011
    Me: 29, had two blocked tubes - left was cleared during lap, right was unable to be cleared. PCOS & Stage 2 Endo. DH: 32, SA = perfect
    CLOMID: 4 rounds, 50mg + TI = BFN's. FEMARA: 1 round = no response
    12-24-2012 : Laparoscopy, Softball sized cyst/endo/scar tissue removed.
    Cycle #14 - Feb 2013 : 50mg clomid. Ovidrel Trigger. IUI on 2/14/13 = thin lining, multiple cysts.
    Cycle #15 - no meds, still have cysts, no follicles. Boo!
    Forced break. Continuous BCP for 6 weeks to give my jacked up ovaries a break.
    Cycle #16 actively trying (May/June): Femara, TI = BFN
    Cycle #17- #20 - Med/Treatment break, trying on our own = BFN's all around.
    Cycle #21 - Femara, MORE Femara, Ovidrel and a Christmas IUI = BFN

    I haven't started it, yet. The doc gave me the script but said not to fill it until I have my sonogram between CD 3-5. They want to make sure I have no cysts before beginning.

    all of this, except my clomid is CD5-9, then u/s on CD 14ish.

    TTC since July 2011
    BFP #1: 2/15/12-Ectopic/Mtx at 6 wks
    BFP #2: 10/12/12-m/c at 5 wks. 
    BFP #3: 8/27/13
    Me: MTHFR, Low AMH (1.1), High NK cells and Antiphospholipid Antibodies.
    DH:MFI-Low morph (1%), DNA fragmentation: Excellent!
    5 rounds of clomid, 3 IUIs, and multiple non-medicated cycles- BFFN                                                      
    IVF with ICSI in August 2013 brought us our babies.  ER-9R, 7M, 4F w/ICSI  ET of 2-Grade 2 blasts. 
    + HPT at 6dp5dt. #1 (8dp5dt)- 105    #2 (13dp5dt)- 510  #3 (15dp5dt)- 960  #4 (17dp5dt)- 1889
    Dx shortened cervix, PTL, and preeclampsia during pregnancy.  Lots of medications and 13 weeks of bedrest, babies were born healthy at 34w4d!

    This sounds like mine. I had a radio, phone line and my cell phone all going and was triple tasking while she was going through it all.

    I know the cd 12 US is to check to make sure I don't overstimulate but what's the first one for on 3?

     To make sure you are cyst free!

    For me it was US on CD2, take Clomid CD3-7, and monitoring US on CD9. At my CD2 US it was to check for no cysts and to do an antral follicle count. Both US took <5 minutes.

    Everything was the same for my 1 femara cycle as it was for my clomid cycles!
