1st Trimester

Stuffy? Slight TMI.

Anyone else really stuffed up?  I feel like I should buy stock in Kleenex because I'm constantly blowing my nose.  It's gotten to the point where all of this excess... guck occasionally makes me gag because I can't blow my nose enough.  It's been going on for about a month.

My mother thinks it's just pregnancy and "excess secretions," but I don't know.  I just switched insurance and so I don't currently have a PC Dr., but even if I did, I'm allergic to all but one of the antibiotics that can be prescribed to pregnant women.  I'm hoping it just goes away on it's own.

Re: Stuffy? Slight TMI.

  • I'd get checked out. I had a sinus infection last week. It sucked majorly, but the z pack helped a lot. I am allergic to a lot of antibiotics too. It sucks.

  • If that was TMI then this will really be, but what is the color when you blow? That is a big factor in determining a sinus infection. Lots of women say their allergies get worse in pregnancy.

  • It's not just allergies, though this is also common, and it's called pregnancy rhinitis - your mucus glands are in overdrive when you become pregnant due to the excessive amounts of estrogen your body produces and a lot of women think they have a cold when they don't. I was a little stuffy at first but I've found the last couple of weeks to be MUCH worse. I have junk in my nose ALL the time. You can go see the Doctor if you feel it's REALLY excessive but chances are they can't do much.

Here is some info I found on it - I've seen a few places with information but this helps describe it pretty well

  • I've had this my entire pregnancy, with a post nasal drip.. It has been terrible but common on pregnancy
