Hydronephrosis/pylectasis?

Just got home from our A/S. It looks like our kid has a mild to moderate case of hydronephrosis. The dr. said 50 of cases resolve themselves and we'll just monitor it more ultrasounds for us! but that it is a marker for Downs. He didn't see any other markers, so I'm not concerned but did a harmony test anyway. I'm just wondering if anyone else is/has experienced this?

Re: Hydronephrosis/pylectasis?

  • Me. We had our follow up u/s, which revealed the issue was still there. At this point it just means more ultrasounds for us too. All our screenings came back negative for Down's syndrome as well and this is our only marker.

I hope your Harmony test reveals some reassuring results. Keep us updated!

I thought I remembered reading that someone else here had this issue too. It doesn't really seem like a big deal, at least not yet. I'm hoping it clears up for both of us!!

  • So good to know that other people on the board have this too!

We're not finding out if it's a boy or a girl, but I have always thought it will be a boy.  It's exciting to still not know if it's a boy or girl but have a medical reason to support my suspicion!

  • My little Tatum girl also has it in both kidneys.  We'll get another ultrasound at 28 weeks and go from there.  Hopefully, it resolves itself for all of our kiddos!

  • My LO has very mild case. MW said that they're finding this to be more normal than previously thought at 20 week ultrasounds. There is no Downs in our family and considering my age they are not even considering that could be a possibility for our situation. It just means another U/S in March, which we need anyway because of a low placenta. Usually it does resolve itself. My MW said if it doesn't she will refer us to a fetal specialist that deals with kidneys.

  • Also, MW said to only be concerned if there is too much or too little amniotic fluid. Hope that give you some peace of mind.

Ditto.  Lily's kidneys are now both enlarged, but even though they've both grown, they still fall under the mild pylectasis category.  I have another u/s in 3 weeks.

I hate that there is nothing that we can do to help, and that at this point it is just lots of waiting and watching.

    FX for all of us!
