Anyone bored and want to shop?

I really want a full crib set(no bumpers necessary) but I can't find one I like. I found a sheet I love but the full set is like $400 or something absurd. I'm tired(and frustrated) of looking and have drill again this weekend.  Anyone? Bueller?

If you do, this is the sheet I found.

And here's the pinterest board that has my inspiration for the "around the world/traveler" theme.

  • Can you call around to local seamstresses to find out how much they would charge to make you a bedding set if you provided the fabric? Might be much cheaper than the $400 or what you'd find on Etsy. I found certain throw pillows that I wanted for our bedroom, but they were like $50 a pop.  I bought 2 yards of fabric on clearance that I liked even more than the fabric of those pillows (I think it was less than $5/yard) as well as stuffing and muslin to make the base pillow, then a seamestress made four of them for me within a day for $50 total, including a zippers. She said it took her less than an hour to make all of them. She sent me home with a bunch of extra fabric.

I might be able to ask a friend to do it. We haven't lived here long so I'm not sure where to start looking but I know a friend recently took up sewing and she made some great curtains and stuff. Thanks for the idea! Still need some fabric though, lol.

Yeah, maybe if you offer to pay her something for her time, or if she wants to buy something off your registry see if she'd be willing to sew a little something for you instead. Finding the fabric might not be easy. eBay seems to have tons of fabric, you'll probably have to use search terms like "globe fabric" or "atlas fabric" . This one might be too comic-y, but it's cute.

Well, I was already shopping on etsy for my boy's bedding, and had just come across this one about 30 minutes ago. It may be the one you already saw, that's pricy. But if you're just wanting the crib sheet and the skirt, just contact the seller and have them price that for you. (Usually the bumper is the costliest part.)

Love your theme ... Can't wait to see it put together.

We lost our first (EDD 07/23/12) after finding out at 12 weeks there was no longer a heartbeat. Our rainbow was born 05/22/13 and was worth all we went through.

  • What do you want with the crib set?

I think if you got a navy crib skirt it would look good with those sheets. Then you could get a quilt and a pillow for decoration or whatever else. I'm getting my sheets and a quilt from pbk but I don't like the crib skirt that goes with it, and I'm not using a bumper either.

Pottery barn has oars that would fit with your travel theme too :)

  • For what it's worth, my friend said not too invest too heavily in bedding sets, that all we'll need is sheets and maybe a bed skirt, depending on the crib. Her son is two and is just now using a blanket at night. Made me totally rethink that bedding I registered for. Now, I'm just considering multilple cute sheets and a somewhat matching bedskirt. Maybe just get the sheets and a bedskirt?

  • I agree that getting the infant quilt isn't really worth it, unless you want it for a keepsake, we used ours as a floor blanket. And as soon as we dropped the mattress to the lowest setting, the crib skirt wasn't usable anymore.

DS1's "big boy" room has a travel theme (well, will once I stop pinning, and actually do some work), My plan is to get some maps for the walls, and I have a bunch of coins/bills from other countries I'm going to put in shadow boxes. Since DH travels I'm going to get a couple of clocks, one set to our time and one to the region that DH is in.

I don't think I can sew well enough to make a full sized bedspread so I'm going to get something plain then buy some map or travel print fabric for pillows and a throw blanket.

  • We are doing a travel theme too and I got a gray and white chevron set from amazon. We will accent with orange and teal. Now just can't decide on which color for the wall.
