1st Trimester

Vicks Vaporub

Hey ladies :)

So I'm currently battling a tiny cold and am very much congested and have cough attacks at night. Do you know if Vicks Vaporub is safe to use while pregnant? Like is it ok to put it on your chest with no problems? It seems silly but I really don't know and I'm super anal about everything now that I'm expecting, LOL.

It appears fine, but if you are worried call the OB in the am. You can always use the wall plug ins for now, they are pretty effective. IMO

  • I asked the pharmacist and he said NO but I suspect he was just following the "direction" that says nothing for colds in the first trimester.  I didn't use it, but I didn't really understand why I shouldn't....

Dear God, Since I couldn't hold my little one in my lap and tell him about you, could you hold him in your lap and tell him about me?

    PgAL and PAL always welcome...

  • I would call your OB and double check. A humidifier and breath right strips help me.

  • My MIL is a nurse and she gave me the lowdown on why so many people are against vics vaporup.  Apparently, years ago, people used to put a drop of it IN the humidifier.  The steam would heat it up and it would become airborne (which was the point).  Unfortunately, the petrochemicals would to, and they would settle in your lungs. big no no.

In short, she said it's fine for rubbing on your chest, but don't put it into a humidifier.

  • It is on the approved list from my OB.

  • I am sick too, and I went out and got a humidifier.  It has been helping a little.  I figured that it would be something that we might need for a baby later, anyhow.
