Speaking of pediatricians

My family has been going to the same "family" practice for years and my husband I love it there. We are planning on using a different pediatrician for the baby, but what age would it be ok to start taking the baby to the family doctor, where the whole family goes?

  • I honestly don't know...  For me I really hold to the "kids aren't just little adults" philosophy.  Great as I'm sure some family doctors are, I want someone whose sole focus is kids, current treatments, safety regulations, etc.  Family doctors have so much they need to know and cover that I'd worry there was no way they could be up to date on every single thing.

  • I personally recommend pediatricians for babies to preteen because they're all about children's development while general practice doctors may not be as attentive. Children's health/development is a pediatrician's specialty. To me, it's like going to a general practice doctor for pregnancy, it's just not thier line of work. I've also had bad experiences with general practice when taking my children to the ER, they just don't seem to be as in tune with children. It's up to you though, you know your doctor well.

  • I was told 18 y.o. is when a child should be transferred to a pediatrician.

    SURPRISE! BFP: 12/2014 - EDD: 8/13/15

We made plans and God laughed
