BTDT-2 story houses

What items did you find beneficial to have both upstairs and downstairs?

I've been working on cleaning out/organizing our house and thinking about where some of baby's things may go. There are some obvious things (swing on one level, rock and play on the other; diapers/changing station), just wondering what some other thoughts were.

Re: BTDT-2 story houses

  • I had a pnp with changing stations on both levels.  Super necessary if you ask me.

  • I think you've got the big things...I made a big basket of stuff for downstairs with receiving blankets, extra binkies, breast pads, and stuff like that during the first week. So, my suggestion is have a box or basket designated for the stuff you realize you're always running up or downstairs for.

Also, definitely keep a bottle of whatever stain remover you want upstairs as well as in the laundry room, so you can pre-treat stains before you forget. I ruined a couple things things thinking, oh I'll just bring it downstairs in a second....yeh, never happened, lol.

  • I think I'm in the minority, and my mom still thinks I'm weird for doing it like this, but I spend most of my day on the main floor and the nursery is upstairs. I walk upstairs every time I need to change diapers. I don't think it's a big deal but with 2u2 I might have to rethink where my play area is located.

Damn, why did this never occur to me with my own clothes? Makes too much sense!

  • We kept a pack n play downstairs. It had a little changing table attached to it so we changed the dirty diapers there. I bought a diaper caddy from the pottery barn and I left that downstairs. Now that my son is nearly 2 I bring him upstairs for diaper changes. He doesn't really fit on the changing table anymore since he's nearly 3 ft tall but I just let his legs hang off. He's too wild to change anywhere else.

  • We are planning on moving the changing table down here and using the dresser as the changing table upstairs. I will also have the bassinet downstairs with some blankets, onesies and other baby stuff.

  • I think I'm just going to keep a wet bag downstairs along with some extra lanolin and a change of clothes and call it good.

  • In our house, baby bedrooms are upstairs and master is downstairs.  We kept DD in our room for the first 7 months.  So we had a cosleeper in our bedroom, along with diapers, wipes, diaper cream, breast pads, lanolin, burp cloths.

In the living room we had the PNP, which was mostly used as a changing table.  Also diaper changing supplies and breastfeeding supplies.

ETA:  We have a diaper genie and have always kept it downstairs.  Even though the majority of her diaper changes are upstairs, we bring the dirty diaper down and throw it in.

  • I did most diaper changes upstairs but did keep a stash of diapers and wipes in a basket downstairs. I kept several burp clothes downstairs too.

When DD was super little, I kept the RnP downstairs for naps and took it upstairs for bedtime.

I had a full size swing downstairs and a travel size one upstairs for a place to park her while I put away laundry.

I was the exact same way, I spend 90% of my day downstairs but go up for changes. Now I keep a small basket of diapers usually 2 per kid downstairs. After months of running upstairs to take diapers to the wet bag, it dawned on me to move it to the laundry room.

OP, for the early days I had a bassinet downstairs and kept extra blankets and clothes in a basket underneath. And I have 2 boppy pillows.
