Or "Bibbins" as my kid calls her.
I had no the film itself was so well respected (other than outside my home).
Julie Andrews won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Mary Poppins and the film also won Oscars for Best Film Editing, Original Music Score, Best Song for "Chim Chim Cher-ee" and Best Visual Effects, and received a total of 13 nominations.
I guess that's my random fact of the day. I still love it. .
ETA: I have no idea why there's random bold shiit. IJS.
Re: Mary Poppins
Mind blown.
There's a Broadway show!? Off to Google.
Did you know::
Disney is making a movie right now about how difficult it was for Walt to secure the movie rights to the book ? It is call Saving Mr Banks and Tom Hanks will be playing walt with Emma Thompson playing PL Travers the author of Mary Poppins.
Oh bummer! I hope it tours. Wasn't Little Mermaid supposed to tour after it closed? Or did it and I just missed it? I wanted to take my niece.
She is also in love with kites because of it. We have to sing the songs nightly, and if I'm telling a story instead of singing she often asks for, "a story about Mary." Which is basically just me telling the plot of the whole movie.
I would love to be able to take her to see it on Broadway. We've watched a couple of YouTube clips, and it looks fab.
I don't know about The Little Mermaid. I imagine Mary Poppins will tour though as it had a pretty successful Broadway run. I hope it does anyway because I'd like to see it too. It's been one of my favorite movies since childhood.
STFU!
That is awesome!
I also just read Mrs. Banks and Mary never had a scene together.
He's my kinda guy.
Aww, so freaking cute! I also love kites because of MP.
I am totally going to check out the stage show. He loves live music.
Yeah, apparently Walt tried for like 20 years to get the movie rights to Mary Poppins before Ms. Travers gave in.
But I "ugh" when she caves when her H comes home.
You can get the DVD through Netflix but I don't think it's on streaming.
I got the 30th anniversary edition on Amazon and the streaming was free.
I bet she'd love it!
Jealous!
Me too!
Votes for women! Lol.
My favorite movie as a kid.
That and Cinderella.
It's hard to not love.
Speaking of love: YOUR SIGGY!
Right!? Why do they do that?
I've had luck w/ Amazon, so I haven't panicked.....yet.
DH and I saw the Broadway show in NY in the summer of 2011. Seeing a Broadway show in NY was on my bucket list and I am so glad that Mary Poppins was the one we saw. I cried twice it was so good. I was also pregnant. But still. It was fantastic. If it ever comes to my area, I would love to see it again.
