Re: Sharps Box

  • Not dumb, I didn't know the first time and my RE never said. :)

Most places just require that its taped completely shut and clearly is marked as SHARPS and then can be thrown in with regular trash. But you will want to check with your local waste disposal because each county or trash area may be different. Ours was clearly marked on our website.

Another option is to just bring it to your doctor's office.  I was still on PIO after leaving the RE, so while I took my first box to the RE, I took the second to my OB for my first appt. (the day after I stopped PIO), and both offices were happy to dispose of them for me.

  • My RE office just has me bring in full containers to them.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Thanks!  I will bring them with me to beta!

I have 4 boxes now from my IUIs/IVF/FET.  My sister is having her baby tomorrow and we're keeping our niece/nephew so I had to hide them, be nice for them to be where they need to be instead of hiding in my closet.

  • My RE no longer takes sharps because people would bring them in in plastic bags, not the containers.... Smiley

But, My local landfill takes them free of charge. Also, as long as it's taped and marked, they can go in with normal trash.

  • i was told i could take them to walgreens as long as they are in the container.

Yep when I finally got tired of looking at them.... I just looked up our cities website and it gave instructions on taping it shut or if you didn't have the container to put it in an empty laundry detergent bottle.  We just taped both sharps containers with lots of duct tape. Didn't mark it since it's obvious that it is a sharps container! :)
