Newbie...I'm a wreck (sry sort of long)

I'm a newbie here and in my first pregnancy - 6w4d currently.  I went and saw the dr yesterday and in the middle of her performing a pelvic exam she looked at me and said "this doesn't hurt?"  I replied no, but I had to use the restroom now.  She said it might be the bladder, but it feels like something with my ovaries and I should get an ultrasound now rather than wait.  I am scheduled to go into the hospital on Thursday for the ultrasound because that is when they could get me in and am a complete wreck - especially after talking on the phone with her today.  She wanted to tell me something briefly and I just asked if she thought they would find something abnormal on the ultrasound, she said "I don't know, but we have to find out where the pregnancy is at."  Now I am super worried about an ectopic pregnancy and have discomfort where she was feeling.  I know it could be a cyst or something, but having to wait until Thursday (and then a few days for the results) is killing me.  Anyone else have a similar situation happen?

  • Sorry to hear that you're going through this.  If it makes you feel better, palpating tubal or ovarian masses/cysts/pregnancies is tough.  When I was in for my annual, I got referred for an ultrasound because the doctor thought I might have an ovarian mass.  Mind you, I'm pretty thin, too, so I figured he should be able to get a pretty good feel.  However, my ultrasound was perfectly normal.

Other symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy include bleeding and very intense pain (think appendicitis type pain).  If you don't have any symptoms, then try not to get too worried.  She may truly have felt nothing, as mine did.

  • I would try not to get too worried- a lot of people have simple cysts that go away on their own and aren't a big deal.  As PP said, ectopic pregnancies are usually accompanied by a lot of pain and other symptoms.  Hope all goes well!

  • keep in mind as well a cyst on the ovarie you got PG from is normal... I had some pain in my left side around 6 weeks along and went to the ER (1st time mommy panic it happens to all of us) they found a cyst on my right overie and a small "bleed spot" (tear) near where the placenta meets the wall. when I went to my follow up the tear had moved down close to the cervix and the cyst had gotten smaller. The verbiage is scary but I was told both are very normal (aprox 75% of women get the tear some never even know it) and can sometimes cause pain. I was a nervous wreck between my ER visit and my follow up U/S, the best advise I can give it just try to relax (as much as you can trust me I know it's much easier said than done) the baby is very resourceful.
