Cloth Diapering

BumGenius?

Hi ladies-

I started my registry at Buy Buy Baby yesterday & came across BumGenius Diapers. Anyone have experience using them or have you heard anything about them? I was hoping for some feedback, since they are $20 each (I registered for 25). Thanks ladies!

Re: BumGenius?

  • If you're lucky enough to get all 25, I'd not open/wash all of them until you try a few out first. I do not love these - my daughter is kind of sensitive to the microsuede (we prefer fleece or cotton) and I feel like the elastic wears out fast in BG products.

But that said, people LOVE their BG diapers :-) It's all trial and error and I think depends on the kid, your water/wash routine, etc. etc. etc...Good luck!

  • I got a few BumGenius diapers during the cottonbabies seconds sale.  I like them okay, but I actually like my Baby Wizard diapers (The BG knock-offs) better and you can get them for $6-$8 each instead of $20.

  • I've only been using mine for about 3 weeks, but I really like my BG diapers.  They fit well and aren't too bulky.

Lots of people have experience with BumGenius.  They are very common; search through this board for more specific questions.  Like any other diaper you will like it, love it or hate it based on how it fits your baby's individual shape.  If a diaper doesn't fit, it will leak.  It seems though that Bumgenius is a brand that fits a lot of babies well, so that is why it's popular.

Bumgenius is not known for very durable velcro, so I'd register for snaps.  If you do get a lot as gifts and wash and try one but don't like them, I would guess you could return the rest to BBB, right?

  • BG 4.0's make up the bulk of our daytime pocket stash. I love the diapers. They fit well when DD was only a couple months old and had chubby little thighs and still fit great almost 2 years later now that she's a skinny mini with skinny thighs.

I have found that most of the elastic needed to be replaced after about 18 months of use (super easy to do), but I don't know if this is a BG thing, or whether my old detergent ate away at the elastic. Also, the aplix was horrible with these diapers. I now only have the snap version.

Like one of the pp's suggested I would only prep a couple, I started with 2. See how you like them and they fit your LO and then go from there.

  • Initially bgs weren't my favorite. Fuzzibunz were my go to, now that my daughter is older the bgs are my favorite. Don't commit until you know what works with your kid. I purchased several from bbb with their 5 dollar off coupon.

  • I tried a lot of diapers and at first when DD was small BG's didn't fit her.  Once we got around 10 lbs the fuzzibunz that I was using didn't seem to fit very well and tended to leak.  Now BG's are the only ones I have that don't leak, the fit is good and they are my favorite.  I totally think it depends on what kind of wetter your LO is as well as body shape as to which you will like the most.  I would definitely try a few though!

  • I got a BG 4.0 with my Jillian's Drawers diaper trial and decided to keep it, even though it was ridiculously huge on DS at the time. It works okay but it's not my favorite. I think I've just never been able to find a pocket diaper that fits DS properly.

I also tried the Elementals and the Freetimes and found that they took forever to dry

  • I'm a big BG fan. They are quality diapers and they fit my girl well.

  • We love our BG pockets. My only complaint is that the Velcro wears out very fast, so I'd recommend snaps.

  • Meh. They are okay, but I wouldn't want a while stash of them (I assume you registered for the 4.0s). They didn't really fit my LO until she was 4-5 months because they are cut wide through the crotch. Of all the BG styles, I like the freetime the best.

  • They work well for me, I did replace the Velcro after about 2 years, I never dried them in the dryer to save the Velcro.
