1st Trimester

Being plus sized...

I am sad that I was unable to lose this gut before getting pregnant again. I lost 55 pounds post DS #1 but I am all of a sudden so sad that I can't see when I will begin showing and stuff. I have the go ahead to keep losing very safely, provided the baby is growing properly (not dieting but eating very well and moving a lot) and all will be fine in the end. But I was just suddenly so bummed by that realization.

Re: Being plus sized...

  • I'm sorry you're feeling that way. I know while we all have different struggles with our weight and appearance, the weight gain is something most of us struggle with no matter what size we start from.

  • I had dreams of losing 30+ pounds before getting pregnant. Well, 6 months of 5 days a week in the gym and a good diet and I lost a whopping 6 pounds. In a backwards way, I'm glad that I'm pregnant because it more-or-less eliminates the "must lose weight" conversation my brain keeps having, for now, but at the same time, I'm still super bummed because, even though I know its normal and healthy to gain weight for pregnancy, it just makes me more depressed because I'll have that much more to lose afterwards.

    Ugh.

  • well, I'm there with you. I am a size 22/24... I wanted to be a size 18/20 when I get pregnant. just remember, we may not get the bump as early - but we get it just as well! My Mom was about 300 when she had me and she had a very visible belly.

Just be happy we don't have to buy the VERY limited, usually not cute maternity clothes as quickly. (Sorry, I just tried to find a plus size dress last night. I was upset)

  • I started weight watchers to loose 30 before TTC well 7 lbs in and I'm preg! I have the gut muffin top too but I'm focusing on Post nursing and excited to join WW again. hang in there
  • Don't beat your self up about it, my advice.... keep working out and eating healthy for the baby, your body will do what it needs to do if you lose in this pregnancy or not. As you make those good habits, you can continue after the baby is born and be in that much of a better place to get where you want to be.... plus your labor and bouncing back will be easier! Good luck!
  • I'm with you. I'm over 50lbs overweight and got weighed at the dr's office yesterday - hadn't realized I was heavier now than ever in my very heavy life. It sucks, but I keep thinking that I can't be the only fat woman to give birth and my very plus size friend has 3 perfect children and had relatively easy pregnancies. So, I feel your bummedness and am with you on the journey. Hang in there and take care.
