Lets talk humidifers..

DS has this humidifier https://www.diapers.com/p/crane-freddy-the-frog-humidifier-21373?site=CA&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc_D&utm_term=WH-006&utm_campaign=GooglePLA&CAWELAID=1338687565&utm_content=pla&ca_sku=WH-006&ca_gpa=pla&ca_kw={keyword} and I hate it. He wakes up with dried snot to his face/nose everyday. I tried the warm vicks vaporizer and did not like it either b/c after the first night it left shiny dried streaks running down the wall that took me an hr to scrub off. Advice please #sick child #tired momma

Re: Lets talk humidifers..

  • in the same boat. I have the same humidifier, doing the vic rub and LO HATES when I try to clean the SUPER HUGE DRY snots blocking his airway. My DH is the best of using a wet papertowel and gets them off. I use the bath or shower method. Basically playing in the water makes the snots come running off.

Im not sure if its because he has a cold, teething or what. Dr gave him and RX antibiotics and for albuteral. I've only done one breathing treatment so far.

Using the humidifier was one big thing the DR recommended.

  • Yeah a hot bath really helps DS. The only thing is I do not have time to give him a bath that early before he goes to school :(

  • Have you tried giving a hot bath at night using the J&J Vapor Bath. I pour it in the water and let LO just breathe it all in. Helps clears the passage ways before bed. Then to get and dried boogies off the next day, the Boogie Wipes are pretty decent, or a warm wash cloth.

Doesn't really answer your humidifier question. We have the vicks vaporizer, but haven't used it yet. Now I am scared to.

  • We have the Crane puppy dog humidifier and have no issues with it.  It doesn't completely keep his nose free of snot/boogers but I don't know that there is a humidifier out there that will completely keep noses free and clear.  Boogie Wipes work well for us to clean his face and I also like the J&J Vapor bath for when he has a cold.  We only use the humidifier when he's got a cold and is congested.

  • We switched to a vaporizer when I got sick, because the humidifier seemed to dry me out too much. Maybe try that instead? We have the Vick's one and love it.
  • We use the Vicks V3100 Cool Mist Humidifier, got it on Amazon but Walmart sells it too.  I love it.  It has a hgih and low setting.  We have a temp/humidity thermometer in DD's room so if the humidity is below 40%, we use it at night.  We use it most nights during the winter because the air is so dry with the heat on.  It seems to really work.  In the morning the humidity reading is 10% higher than the night before.  But you don't want to use a warm mist humidifier because it can promote mold growth.  HTH!!!

I have the Vicks cool mist also. Never leaves a mist on the walls.

  • we use saline drops those really loosen things up and keep it moving its a running nose. we do that morning and night and sometimes before naps depending how bad the cold is.

we did have a humidifier but it was sooo hard to keep clean and free of mold so we switched to the vicks vaporizer you aren't suppose to close the doors when you use it, then you will get the streaks on the wall as long as we leave the door even a crack open we don't get the streaks and its so much easier to clean! we love it and have two one in each of our boys' room!

  • We have the Crane Warm Mist Humidifier, and it works well.  My daughter was congested, and I used this at night.  And I also used a Nosefrida to clear her out.  I only use it for an hour or two when she is falling asleep.  And then in the morning, I will put it on for an hour.
