Love it or hate it? My husband and I love the idea of naming our daughter Charlotte and Charlie as her nickname. What do you guys think? Cute or not? Mixed reviews from family. Seems to be no in between, they either love it or hate it.
It's too popular for me personally but I think it's adorable. It's my Nieces name
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! Expecting again after IVF
I posted on the one above first? Love the name Charlotte. My friend named her little girl this and called her Charlie from day 1. It is really hard to call a little baby girl that. It just seems forced to me. I much prefer Charlotte.

I like it but I've heard it a lot lately. I think Charlie is a cute nn but unfortunately the little girl I knew with that name was such a horrible biter and hair puller she got kicked out of our day care center at the age of 2 so for me it has a negative association.
I'm in the "love it" camp, but I'm a little embarrassed about it. It's definitely a guilty pleasure name for me. I think part of the problem is Charlie can be a hard nn for a girl to pull off. She really has to have the confidence to own it.
What if she is shy and sensitive to some of the teasing she would get? What if she is a total girly girl princess and hates having a boys name?

That's the great thing about nicknames, the child can choose to use whatever name they prefer. This is why I hate when people recommend to just name the child the nickname because I agree that Charlie as the first name would be tough for a girl.

I love Charlotte and think it is a beautiful name, but honestly I'm tired of it. It has become super popular and that is a turn off for me. I do not care for the nn Charlie on a girl, but do like Lottie as a nn for Charlotte.
I love the name Charlotte and by no means do you have to call her Charlie even if another child uses a nickname. I don't have one the rest of my siblings do.
I imagine a nickname might come naturally like char.. Just when speaking.
But other options beyond Charlie
Lottie
Char
Lola my fav
Cece
Love the nickname Charlie. Charlotte is a girly, frilly name, and if your daughter ends up not being a girly-girl then Charlie is a great fall-back. Some studies have shown that girls with gender-neutral or more masculine names score higher on measures of confidence than girls with traditionally feminine names. My niece is named Charlotte Anne and had been nicknamed Char, but has recently announced that she's over it and wants to be called by her full name. She's 8; she'll probably change her mind a million times between now & adulthood... but that's why it's great to choose a name that has options.
I am so tired of this name.. I feel like I hear it all the time. Not sure what the actual stats are though! There is nothing wrong with the name, but Charlotte just doesn't do anything for me, and I'm not big on the nn Charlie for a girl. Definitely not the worst though! If you love it, go for it
I love the name Charlotte - it's one of my favorites. And as much as I don't like giving boys names to girls, I don't mind masculine nicknames, because you can always use something else!
Re: Charlotte (Charlie) Opinions
I'm "meh" about the name (and nn) in general, but I do like it better than just naming her Charlie!
You will find a lot of love for Charlotte on this board though - it's just not a personal favorite of mine ;-).
Love it! Very pretty full name and a very cute nickname.
Plus one.
