Trouble TTC

Should I call a doctor?

This is an unmedicated cycle for us, and the last cycle we did was unmonitored on Clomid (100mg - new dosage).  Today my body has decided to be very strange - this morning started off with CM that was just a bit brown - this evening it turned pinkish then disappeared w/ light cramping on and off all day (fyi - I've never had a problem spotting this early in my cycle).  Now, before you get all "she's going down the implantation route" on me - here me out! That is not actually my concern at all (remember, this was an unmedicated cycle)!  I had all but convinced myself, last cycle, that the upped dosage & lack of monitoring left me with a huge cyst...but then AF came, so I figured in the clear!  But now, I'm a bit concerned that it was perhaps really a cyst? Would a cyst cause bleeding?  Am I just being a wackadoo and trying to borrow trouble?

Me: 30, DH: 40

Re: Should I call a doctor?

  • If you are on a treatment break, not in any pain, and have regular AF I see no need to go see a doctor until you are ready to cycle again - and at that point I'm sure you will see a doctor that will actually monitor you so you're not questioning everything.

I have had a few cycles in my 51 cycles where I'd have some mid cycle spotting for no known reason.  And I don't spot.  But every weird once in a while, apparently I do.  It can drive your brain crazy but something it's just odd and nothing more.

Thank you, thank you! I have a tendency to freak myself out - and I guess I'm still beating myself up over the last cycle. And you're right, the next cycle will be with an RE, so monitored and real!

  • I wouldn't worry unless you are having pain. That was always my first indication of cysts (well before ruptures/bleeding, etc..) The longer and wackier my cycle is, the more likely I am to have random spotting and other "different" symptoms. Wait it out... spotting isn't abnormal.

  • I spot on meds, off meds. I'm just like that. It's annoying but there's never been a cyst. I've had various monitored cycles with Clomid and Femara and still spot, some months more than others.

Mention it to your new RE when you meet but I don't see a reason to be overly concerned.  Relax and try not to stress about it. I know it's easier said than done. Sometimes I need to take my own advice!

Very good advice! I'm not sure I would've thought to mention it to the RE - or to relax...lol

I don't want to freak you out, but I have to disagree with PP on this one. Early on in our TTTC I was not monitored on Clomid for several cycles. During this time AF was almost like clockwork (for the first time ever, and we're unexplained). Pretty much from the first month I took it I started growing cysts. Cysts don't necessarily throw off AF, sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. I don't think I ever had the symptoms you are mentioning, and may not be indicative of a cyst - but do keep an eye on yourself and how your body is feeling. I was having weird cramp-like symptoms after a month on Clomid and a good week or two before my next AF was due, and my primary doctor dismissed it as pre-period pains. Wack I know.

So anyway, like I said, keep an eye on yourself and if you're really concerned then go see your Doc! It's always better to be safe than sorry when dealing with IF.

Thank you for your input.  I'm so on the fence about things - everything is back to normal as of now - around noon everything just stopped (and it never got as bas as a regular period).  If I start to get some pains I will call the doctor - for sure - if not - I will wait it out until AF starts and definitely share my concerns with the RE on the 15th!

  • I've had breakthrough bleeding which was dark red, when I called RE it was from a ruptured cyst. There was no pain involved. It could be AF or just some residual tissue from your last cycle.
