High-Risk Pregnancy

Stress and GD

So, I have been doing th GD thing for 2 months now I am 23 weeks and doing well with the help of insulin before dinner and at bed time. To make a long story short, my husband and I got into an argument and he wanted some space, so he is at a friend's for the day/night. He also did this to try not and stress me and the baby out. My numbers since waking up the morning have been above 100, but below 175. This is a first for me to not have normal numbers. Is there anything I should do? Just eat protein and no carbs? Maybe I will just have an early dinner, as the insulin should bring my numbers back to where they should be...thoughts?

Re: Stress and GD

  • This happens to me too. I have had two days that were really high stress since my diagnosis, and my post meal numbers ran near 175 those days, despite sticking to my normal diet. I would just keep an eye on things, and if they go super high or remain between 100 and 175 for a few days, call your doctor.

  • When my numbers would shoot up last pregnancy due to stress I'd drink a ton of water and walk after my meals.

  • Drinking lots of water now. I don't know why I didn't think of that, especially since I have been boo hooing on and off all day. I've wiped myself out, but will make a point now to get up and move around. I am sure tomorrow will be a better day than today. Thanks for the responses.
  • Also, remember hormones play a role. I wish my numbers were closer to yours, but I have only been diagnosed for a week now and started insulin yesterday [31 weeks currently].
  • As a disclaimer I have preexisting diabetes and not GD, but my doctor said that during pregnancy you will often get a spike in blood sugar around the 22-24 week and then again around 28-32 weeks. As the pregnancy progresses you may have more difficulty controlling the diabetes with diet and if you are on pills or insulin (especially) your dosages will usually need to be increased, so thats another possibility of what may be happening.
